Long Threads

I find that whenever a thread is longer than 3 pages, unless the subject is really interesting or something I really want to give my 2 about, I probably won't bother reading it the whole way through, and mostly will avoid the thing all together. What about you?

I'm sorry ... were you saying something?

Oh ... I thought this was another sexy actor/actress thread.

Damnit ...

It depends on the thread. The threads that are like "Whats your favorite..." or "What do you think about..." generally encourage you to jump in and offer up your 2 cents; so in most cases I feel pretty safe to completely ignore the present context of the conversation and address the initial poster [not to mention that other people's taste in music and movies frequently makes me nauseous]. In most cases, discussions about one's favorite $MEDIA_PARCEL quickly devolve into other, completely unrelated tangents. Threads dealing with politics tend to stay a little more on-topic, but even those sometimes take quite the walk.

If the thread is something really intense and in-depth, I'll skim over it quickly if I think the lot of you pinko bastards are actually making the points I'd expect you to make. I show 45 posts to a page so anything over 2-3 pages is pretty much out of the question. If a thread's topic piques my interest but I don't have the patience to read it all, I usually read the introductory post, and then skip to the last three or four to see where the conversation is headed.

You liked "Dude, Where's My Car?" and listen to System of a Down and you know it! :p

It depends on the topic. If I'm either really interested or really bored, I'll read the whole thing if it's under 10 pages.

Most threads aren't worth it though :p

If it's really long I'll read the first few posts and the last few, and then say what I think. If I think that what I'm saying is pretty obvious, I'll skim read the thread to check no one else has said it first.

I think posting in a thread, that you didnt take any time to read, is NS Blasphemy.

Yep. I hate that.
I always read the threads before posting.

Oh, the hypocrisy >.< (not yours, mine). After posting in the "What religion are you?" thread just now I just realized that I do post in threads without having read them (besides the humongous mega-spam threads, that is): when I simply want to answer the OP's question and can see that the last posts are busy in some discussion that isn't relevant to what I'm going to say, esp. since I'm not making any kind of argument but just answering the original question.

Nope, mine too. Haven't read a single post in this thread but yours I quoted. And I do the same thing you describe here. I just can't be on all the time to get "first page" :(

Agreed... but sometimes coming in as soon as one debate is ending can be fun.

Well, this has, ironically, turned out to be rather short, hasn't it?

It needs someone to bring cookies and fizzy drinks. Then it'll get going.
