Yesterday we were coming home from vacation and the raido was on.

Well Gorillaz song Clint Eastwood came on..

So I'm sitting there listening to it, and me with my special lil mind, started getting ideas on what the lyrics meant..

I'm useless but not for long

What was my idea on what they mean?

I think the song was about a hooker.

Finding alternate meanings for songs is fun!

For instance, it could be a religiously fanatic suicide bomber from an impoverished background.

He's not happy, but he's feeling glad: His life sucks but he's got a reason to hope for the better world to come.

He's got sunshine in a bag: Bombs in bags make flashy light and transport the weilder to paradise

He's useless but not for long, the future is coming on: In martyrdom, his otherwise useless life will inspire others to rise up and fight for the cause.

It even has some potential in the rap part of the song.


Or, it could be a technophile who's migrated onto the internet. His laptop is a form of escapism for him; the outside world is so harsh and unnecessary, and he's so weak and helpless, but with technology and the expansion of the web, he has been empowered and can feel like he's making a difference.

"I got sunshine in a bag" is cocaine.
"I'm useless, but not for long" is a worhtless life about to overdose and die.
"The future is coming on" is the great void beyond life.

Because: when you smoke pot, you might not actually be happy, but you feel glad. A lot of people carry it around in a bag. And you're temporarily useless after smoking :) Plus, lyrics later in the song support the pot theory. "Now time for me is nothing cos I'm counting no age," "like you lit the fuse," "y'all can see me now cos you don't see with your eye, you perceive with your mind," "remember that it's all in your head." They all sound kinda trippy to me.

So, why does that make it about weed? Thinking about it in terms of drugs, I'd imagine ity was related more to LSD than marijuana. All of the bits support LSD as much as weed, and possibly more so in the case of the "trippy" shit.

But I think that its just some basically meaningless lyrics that sound good, and are catchy.

Although thinking about the line "Remember that it's all in your head" definitely seems to support a drug theory.
