A substitute for the behavior you describe:

Directly to the right of the "go" button (which is, in turn, directly to the right of the location box), where is a drop down menu which lists several search engines. The very last item of the list is an option called "Add Engines..." Select this option. The page that is loaded will present a selection of additional search engines, including Wikipedia. Select the Wikipedia link, and the Wikipedia search option will be added to the drop down menu. To conduct a search, simply select the Wikipedia icon from said drop down menu and type one's search terms into the box.

To restore the behavior you describe:

edit: see also here:

http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/tips#beh_search

This appears to be a solution for restoring the previous behavior you describe. Try substituting the default google search URL, via the process described in the link above, with:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search?go=GO&search=

edit again: In fact, try the following, as this little feature makes it quite simple:

Copy the wikipedia search URL above.
Open a new tab, type "about:config" in the location box and hit enter.
A long page listing preferences and settings should load.
Scroll down until you find the Preference Name "keyword.URL"
Highlight this Preference Name by left-clicking it, then right-click and select "Modify" from the context menu
A textbox with a google search URL should open. Clear this URL out, and paste in the wikipedia search URL in its place.
Press "OK" to save the new setting

(I was changing the wrong preference, the correct one being pointed out in the directions linked above the whole time; this is what I get for reading and following non-official canon...:headbang: The above process should now restore the behavior you describe.)
