Godlike Knowledge Of Any ONE Subject

New Age Astrology

After reading many of the debates in these threads, I've come to the conclusion that I've been cursed with an "Inability To Grasp & Retain Knowledge" disease! This, by the way, is a compliment to all of the NS'ers posting intelligent, fact-based arguments and rebuttals in a professional, civilized manner (and to Lunatic Goofballs for providing us with unparalleled wit & humor)! To shorten this up a bit... I am envious but offer a sincere CONGRATULATIONS!!! Sometimes I think I learn more from you guys (and gals) then I do from more obvious sources of information!!!

Anyway, to the point of this thread! If you could have all the information/knowledge of one particular subject implanted in your brain, which subject would you choose? I'll include a poll in a minute!!!

How does Technology differ from Science in this poll?

Aviation. Although I have a 45-year career in aviation, I do not have a Godlike knowledge of the subject. The blitzkrieg of technological advances in the industry over the last 30 or so has made it impossible for anyone to have Godlike knowledge of the subject.

With that kind of smug superiority behind it, it's got to be C.S. Lewis.

Prolly Pascal. That's his wager.

Of course, the rub is if it's a different God, you're screwed. But I don't think Pascal put much stock in pagans.

Yo: same question to the OP as earlier, I got kinda buried in replies: are we talking all potential knowledge, or all current knowledge?

I am kind of envious of the people whom I percieve to have "god like knowledge" of certain subjects. I don't think there really is an area that I excel in, I tend to know a little about a lot of things, which isn't useful at certain times (like when I need to know a lot about one thing) but seems to suffice for most of my everyday life.

also, all potential knowledge in the area or all current?

edit: ^^ wow, sorry I re-asked that question, I didn't read the thred before I replied, I guess though that it is a good question since I am not the only one to ask it.

edit: out of the list Geography & History so I could find all the pirate treasure Arrrrr

My best subjects are political sciences, political philosophy, military history, and a little bit of normal philisophies, economics, and literature. Algebra is kinda fun, but I shall always cherish history and politics.
So, geography and history.

Knowledge in itself is worthless if you do not have the power to apply it. I'd choose whichever one gives me the most power.

Power can be used to make money, but money cannot buy true power.

Power defined as the ability to manipulate others in a direct and controlling manner, through authority, legitimacy or even threats.

Language. I'm assuming Godlike knowledge equals perfect comprehension of both reading and writing and a command of the language equal to that of an extremely well-educated and eloquent native speaker. Also, you never forget the languages and your knowledge constantly expands to include new terms.

If you can communicate with anyone freely, your ability to appreciate and understand the world and its cultures is limited only by personal desire to do so. Knowing languages enables you to go way beyond the stuff visible to the tourist or casual observer and really get to know a culture and its history.

Imagine being able to read the original Greek of Herodotus' histories or the Latin of Cicero's speeches, the Chinese of the Tao Te Ching or the Sanskrit of the Bhagavad Gita, not to mention the thousands of timeless works produced by the world's greatest minds in equally as many languages...and imagine being able to do so as easily as if these ancient and foreign languages were your native tongue.

Why isn't sex an option?

Because learning new things about sex is entirely too much fun? And besides, if you already know it all, wouldn't that make getting laid kinda dull?

I clicked on Geography and History, but realized I would rather be able to keep learning history. Now I have no clue.

Don't forget the tablets of Sumer...

Or the yet-undeciphered Linear A religious writings of the Minoans or the Luwian language of the ancient Trojans and Hittites...the ability to decipher the world's lost languages would be like unearthing a new Rosetta stone, but this time you not only have three languages but every language ever spoken.
