That is so fucked up.

Call me a hippie, but that's just not cool. I like bears. Although perhaps not as much as you-know-who (http://www.adn.com/front/story/4110831p-4127072c.html) liked them...:p

Gentry's manager, Johnny Dorris, said Wednesday that Gentry, an outdoorsman and hunter, expects to be exonerated.

Gentry "relied on the knowledge and expertise of a local guide to obtain the proper permit," Dorris said in a written statement. "Troy felt what he did was legal and in full compliance of the law and was surprised to hear of the indictment."
"I thought it was totally okay to buy a tame bear and shoot it in a pen."

Sweet crap, this is was passes for an 'outdoorsman' these days? I was never a fan of 'real' hunting, but at least there was something there. Why don't losers like this guy and Dick Cheney just go to the carnival and shoot the mechanical piano player in the ass with a BB gun to get him to play four bars of some ragtime tune and drop the fucking pretence.

He deserves to be tied to a post covered in honey and then let the bears come. And that's just for the country music. I'll think of some other punishment for the bear thing.

I'll never understand it,myself. This bear had a freaking name, for crying out loud.

You want to impress me, hunt grizzly with a bow in their home territory. Although, I feel if you can snap a good quality picture, why kill a wild animal that has reached full maturity in the world today?

I have a dozen deer or more walk through my yard each day and a huge black bear wander through every other week or so. No sport in shooting something I could hit with my car.

Coming from someone who's probably taken part in the right-wing sport of bashing the so-called Liberal Cultural Elite of Hollywood, that's a pretty disingenuous Ad Hominem. It's like the tired old "If you use a vehicle that emits gas, you don't have any authority to speak up about protecting the environment" crap that's been on the board lately.

If it had been the Dixie Chicks that shot the bear you'd be calling for them to fry.

"probably" ? I think you're confusining me with someone else.

If my father shot this bear under the same circumstances, I'd be disgusted. Should someone "fry" for doing something like this?

Of course not.

Their punishment should be significant though, not a slap on the wirst, or easily afforded fine. It should be substantial enough a penalty so that they'll never forget and never be inclined to do so again.

Dont assume what I'd be calling for, under any circumstances.

I agree. The sad part is how the bear felt when he realized the betrayal.

He had a fucking name!! That would be along the lines of selling someone your dog and they toss it a stick and shoot him as he returns with it.

I'm changing my mind-Fry this stupid fucker!

And fry the Dixie Chicks too!

How could you tell if he's actually serving the sentance?

Isn't "bad country song" redundant?

Hmm, very good points. Make him just stand up there and say it out loud? "I bought a tame bear, had it put in an enclosure and killed it with a bow and arrow. And then, folks, I reported it as a wild kill." Right there on stage with a nice, bright spot on him.

In a normal hunt bullets are optional ( usually advisable) BUT as this is a punishment the hunter will have no bullets. Instead the bullets will also be hidden in the forest but some of them will be blanks which would further enrage the bear(s). Normal bullets will be hidden in hard to get places like a bear cave

No, REAL manly men hunt bears with their bare hands. Mostly because all REAL manly men enjoy bad puns.

The REALLY REAL manly men cut their hands off first, and rub the bleeding stumps with honey.

Yes, but FIRST they rip out their teeth and glue them to the stumps, then they headbutt the bear, because headbutting is a manly way to show that your skull is really thick.

This is like when some sick ass hunters shot a tame wolf(under the circumstances, it would be almost impossible to prove otherwise) because they hated wolves. A rabid or starving one I would understand, but one that's basically a "primitive" dog san only millennia of breeding? That's as manly as a tea party in a sunday dress with stuffed animal guests. That's as manly as slapping. That's as masculine as a vagina. Dicks.

Canned hunts are actually fairly popular, for some reason. People will pay big bucks for a caged mountain lion, bear, or some other 'big game' (usually) to be let out of a cage so that it can be mauled by dogs and then shot, or just shot.

Heres the Wiki on it.

Not very sporting ...

Although not much hunting is, these days. I say, if a man wants to really hunt, give him a rifle and have him face an angry grizzly bear at 100 feet. That would be a fair fight. If you can't handle it, don't hunt. Seriously, why hunt things like defenseless deer or domesticated animals with guns anyway? Deer aren't that hard to kill. Whenever I'm driving and I see a deer in the middle of the road, it makes no attempt to escape. It just calmly walks across the road, like it wants me to run it over. Fuck deer. /rant

This thread looks like a canned hunt of shooters (I'll be damned if I'm going to call the likes of these people "hunters") who engage in canned "hunts". And that's a good thing....

Am I the only one who sees this story as being sad and pathetic? Next thing you'll be telling me is that even though the dude wears a cowboy hat, the closest he has ever been to a horse is the petting zoo at the Children's Zoo when he was a little wannabe Gene Autry.

Know what's a fair fight?
The hunter has an unloaded rifle in one hand and ammo in the other.
An angry bear is 5 yards away from him and closing in.
50% chance the bear meets her maker(let's make it an angry mother bear)
50% chance the bear gets some delicious, nutricous people meet
Sounds a bit fair

And to think, I had sorta liked him as a singer.

That's pretty much animal cruelty.
The guy bought a pet and shot it in the head.
AND! He edited it to make it seem like a fair chase! Obviously, the guy has no hunting skills whatsoever.

It's people like him and Dick Cheney that give hunting a bad reputation.....
