PIMMS!!!

Pimm's Cup
When London oyster bar owner James Pimm decided in 1840 to add a little quinine and herbs to his gin, little did he realize that he had created a drink that would launch a thousand nips.

Adopted by New Orleans as a hometown favorite, the Pimm's Cup is the quintessence of summer quaffing. Refreshing, tart, citrusy, this old-school drink served in a highball glass is perfect by itself or as an accompaniment to grilled meats, fried chicken, or spicy salsas. For a classic Pimm's Cup, park yourself at the dark, cool bar at New Orleans' Napoleon House, but if you can't get there from here, try this modern take on James Pimm's gift to civilization.

4 lemon slices
4 apple slices
4 orange slices
4 cucumber slices
3 cups Pimm's No. 1 Cup, available at liquor stores
2 cups lemonade soda
4 fresh mint sprigs
Ice cubes

Fill four 8- to 10-ounce highball glasses with ice cubes. Divide the fruit slices among the glasses. Pour 1/2 cup of lemonade and 3 tablespoons of Pimm's into each glass. Garnish with the mint and serve.

Serves 4.

I used to take great pride in drinking good, solid ales. Now, however, the clubbing lifestyle means that vodka redbulls do the trick and don't give me a hangover. So much.

EDIT: And that is possibly the saddest thing about being at uni.

that looks delicious; I wonder if they have it in the US, I'd certainly give it a shot - I still want to brew my own though.

I'm a big fan of that Belgian fruit flavored beer (cant seem to recall the name right now)

I used to be a big fan of a Dr Boston -- cheap vodka and Dr Pepper. Now, I've gotten a little more into fruit-flavored sparkling wines, like that cheap Andre stuff Walmart sells.

I did have an interesting experience last night, though. Upon my roommate's recommendation, I tried something called a Grateful Dead. The name sounded familiar, and I was a bit suspicious of its scummy blue color, but I drank it anyway. Halfway through, I thought it was my cold that had me sleepy and stumbling. Turns out, the damn thing is a blue long island iced tea.

Bonehead me forgot classes started today. Of course, with this psycho cold, I can't tell what was sinuses and what was hangover. Much MUCH suckage.

Favorite drink, my, that's a bit of a toughie. It really relies upon the situation.

Personally, I love a good chilled Hefeweizen on a hot summer afternoon. Espescially with a good beer friendly book (Lord of the Rings is an excellent choice).

Come midwinter, when there's a blizzard out, I'll camp out in front of the fireplace with a Russian Imperial Stout. It's as thick as motor oil, black as coal and strong as an ox. Best damn winter beer around.

If I'm with my family, and it's Christmastime, there's no better drink than this absolutely wonderful spiced holiday ale, whose recipe has been in my family for years.

So many drinks are so good at different times...

It definitely works. Me and my friends do it regularly. Burns through the filters way too quickly though...

If you're looking to be really ambitious, you can also attempt to distill some cheap vodka down a bit further. The boiling point of alcohol is 82 degrees celsius, if I remember correctly, and with a bit of tubing, you can make it more potent.

I agree, my own tastes in beer and ale vary with the season. In the US people are always wanting to put beer and ale in the refrigerator to get it as cold as possible. That's fine for warm-weather brews, but in winter I frequently just leave it near the back door by the stairs to the cellar, where it gets cool but not cold.

The raspberry, yes, but the cassis is my fave! And the cherry isn't bad, either. :D

Get into homebrewing man. It's very capital intensive up front, but once you've got the stuff, you can't get better beer at a better price nearly anywhere. It might take a couple of batches to figure everything out, but once you do...damn, it's good.

Of course, I'm a bit biased, homebrewings in my blood. My family has made it's own alcoholic beverages since they fled Germany in the early 1800's.

179.6

Multiply by nine. Divide by five. Add 32.

Or you can just type 82 celsius in farenheit into google, and it will do it for you.

Hmm, a decent single malt or an ale for socialising. Whatever's cheap if I want to get drunk. Cocktails if we've got enough fancy stuff (it's handy having a housemate who mixes cocktails for fun  )

Best drink ever: Black Cuillin Ale, from those wonderful people at the Skye Brewery.

You can most likely get started for under a hundred bucks. You're gonna have to buy a couple of things, but a lot of it is dual use (big wooden spoons will always have many uses).

If you live near a reasonably big city, there's going to be a local homebrewers shop around. That's a great place to start. The people there are very knowledgeable, and they'll have all of the supplies you need.

I'd advise starting out with a kit, and following the instructions included with that. Although, skip out on the included dry yeast, and purchase the liquid equivalent.

Feel free to tinker with the kit recipe too. If you like your beer bitter, feel free to add a bit more of that delightful cannabis cousin, hops. If you want it to be fizzier, mix in a little bit more malt (be careful with this, too much and the bottles will explode).

And don't buy the empty bottles they have at the store. It's way better to buy bottles full of beer, and, well, empty them into your stomach, than it is to buy the empty ones.

Well, there's a good Belgian brew that I've got written down the "The Book", and it uses dried orange peels. You can also add virtually any spice you like, to add that flavor to the beer. Cinnamon is great. Mix in some coffee beans with certain types of beers and you've got a treat as well.

Special brews I make are the traditional holiday ale my family's made for years, and there's always plenty of experimenting for a more advanced brewer.

I'd say if you get up to it, brew a batch or two to get the hang of brewing, and then cook up a Russian Imperial Stout. That's some special beer. Thick as motor oil. Potent too.

Yeppers, hops, a vital ingredient to beer, are one of the closest cousins to cannabis around. If you get a chance, pay a visit to a place where they're growing hops, the buds look quite similar. When I was in Germany I made a specific point to go visit a Hopgarten.

It looks interesting but perhaps limited?

I heard about hops being a cousin to cannabis. I heard you could even smoke hops.

Anyway, I love to experiment so I will surely be trying to mix things up a bit.

I'd liek to start with a brew that resembles Guiness

You can smoke them but they won't get you high. When I worked at Anchor Brewing, there was at least one guy a month who would ask that on the tour. We used whole hop flowers in our beer, and one of the stops on the tour was the hop room--the smell was intoxicating.

OK - I've never smoked them myself but a few sources suggest that you can smoke them and get somewhat intoxicated: http://www.salviasupply.com/information/hops.html?act_vn

One source said that he tried it and it was ineffective.

I supposed making a tea is the preferred method though it seems.
