Bob Dylan has some really good ones. I strongly urge you to get limewire if you don't have already (it's free), and download "Girl From The North Country", a johnny cash and bob dylan duo.

Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers.

Oh! My love, my darling,
I've hungered for your touch,
A long, Lonely time.
And time goes by, so slowly,
And time can do so much,
Are you still mine?
I need your love.
I need your love.
God, speed your love to me.
Lonely rivers flow to the sea, to the sea,
To the open arms of the sea, yeah.
Lonely rivers sigh, wait for me, wait for me,
I'll be coming home, wait for me.
Oh! My love, my darling,
I've hungered, hungered!, for your touch,
A long lonely time.
And time goes by, so slowly,
And time can do so much,
Are you still mine?
I need your love.
I, I need your love.
God speed your love to me.

Make you feel my love - Bob Dylan
When the rain is blowing in your face
And the whole world is on your case
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love

When the evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one there to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love

I know you haven't made your mind up yet
But I would never do you wrong
I've known it from the moment that we met
No doubt in my mind where you belong

I'd go hungry, I'd go black and blue
I'd go crawling down the avenue
There's nothing that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love

The storms are raging on the rollin' sea
And on the highway of regret
The winds of change are blowing wild and free
You ain't seen nothing like me yet

I could make you happy, make your dreams come true
Nothing that I wouldn't do
Go to the ends of the earth for you
To make you feel my love

(got to dance to it last night :fluffle: so nice)

and hubby's and my song (also danced to last night)

Dream a little dream of me (originally by Louis Armstrong and very nice, but on our wedding night we opted for Mama Cass.......)

Stars shining bright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper "i love you"
Birds singin’ in the sycamore trees
Dream a little dream of me

Say nighty-night and kiss me
Just hold me tight and tell me you’ll miss me
While I’m alone and blue as can be
Dream a little dream of me

Stars fading but I linger on dear
Still craving your kiss
I’m longin’ to linger till dawn dear
Just saying this

Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you
But in your dreams whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me

(instrumental break)

Stars shining up above you
Night breezes seem to whisper "i love you"
Birds singin’ in the sycamore trees
Dream a little dream of me

Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you
But in your dreams whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me

Yes, dream a little dream of me

'The Light At The End Of The World' - My Dying Bride

Too long to post but lyrics are beautiful!

'For You' - My Dying Bride

I will be here for you
All I want is you
When I see your face
All the Angels are shamed

Lay with me beauty
Feel me close to you
Take my hand to you
Touch you softly. Your warm skin

Cover me with you
Over me under you
Pull me in to you
As one we lay entwined

All I ever wanted
I have, I need never wish again
You are heaven sent

'Anymore' - Travis Tritt

I can't hide the way I feel about you anymore
I can't hold the hurt inside, keep the pain out of my eyes anymore
My tears no longer waiting, my resistance ain't that strong
My mind keeps recreating a life with you alone
And I'm tired of pretending I don't love you anymore

Let me make one last appeal to show you how I feel about you
'Cause there's no one else I swear that holds a candle anywhere next to you
My heart can't take the beating, not having you to hold
A small voice keeps repeating deep inside my soul
It says I can't keep pretending I don't love you anymore

I've got to take the chance or let it pass by
If I expect to get on with my life

My tears no longer waiting, oohh my resistance ain't that strong
But my mind keeps recreating a life with you alone
And I'm tired of pretending I don't love you anymore

Anymore

The lyrics don't do it justice without the music and Ferry's voice but it might be one of the best songs ever to make slow passionate love to:

Now the party´s over
I´m so tired
Then I see you coming
Out of nowhere
Much communication in a motion
Without conversation or a notion
Avalon
When the samba takes you
Out of nowhere
And the backgrounds fading
Out of focus
Yes the picture changing
Every moment
And your destination
You don´t know it
Avalon
When you bossa nova
There´s no holding
Would you have me dancing
Out of nowhere

Anything by Air Supply! They're the quintessential Love Song group!!!

Hey wait, how bout this one?

Papa Loved Mama
Artist: Garth Brooks
Album: Ropin' The Wind
Year: 1991

Papa drove a truck nearly all his life
You know it drove mama crazy being a trucker's wife
The part she couldn't handle was the being alone
I guess she needed more to hold than just a telephone
Papa called Mama each and every night
Just to ask her how she was and if us kids were alright
Mama would wait for that call to come in
When Daddy'd hang up she was gone again

Mama was a looker
Lord, how she shined
Papa was a good'n
But the jealous kind
Papa loved Mama
Mama loved men
Mama's in the graveyard
Papa's in the pen

Well it was bound to happen and one night it did
Papa came home and it was just us kids
He had a dozen roses and a bottle of wine
If he was lookin' to surprise us he was doin' fine
I heard him cry for Mama up and down the hall
Then I heard a bottle break against the bedroom wall
That old diesel engine made an eerie sound
When Papa fired it up and headed into town

Well the picture in the paper showed the scene real well
Papa's rig was buried in the local motel
The desk clerk said he saw it all real clear
He never hit the brakes and he was shifting gears

Mama was a looker
Lord, how she shined
Papa was a good'n
But the jealous kind
Papa loved Mama
Mama loved men
Mama's in the graveyard
Papa's in the pen

Try Again

Ooh...hoo...
I been starin’ at your photograph
Wonderin’ where you’re at today
And I been hangin’ by the telephone
Hopin’ that you’d call home and say

But you told me you needed more walks, more talks
More feelin’ closer to me, I wanna be close to you
I didn’t know you needed some roses, some romance
A little candlelight and slow dance, that’s not how it’s been
But maybe we can try again
Try, try
Maybe we can try again

I remember all the days gone by
And I’m wonderin’ why I couldn’t see
I could search the whole world over
And never find what you were always giving me

I told you I needed more time, more space, more freedom
[Free to do] Ooh...free to do, girl, what you wanna do
I gave you no roses, no romance
No candlelight and no slow dance, but that’s just how it’s been

Maybe we can try again
Try, try
Maybe we can try again
Try, try
Maybe we can try again, yeah

Ooh...I remember when you told me you needed more walks, more talks
More feelin’ close to me, ooh, I wanna be close to you, yeah
I’ll give you some roses, whole lot of romance
A little candlelight, slow dance, don’t let this feelin’ end

Maybe we can try again
Try, try
Maybe we can try again

Maybe we can, we can try again, we can try again
Maybe we can try again
Maybe we can, we can try again, we can try again
Maybe we can try again

I agree with "Wonderful Tonight" by Clapton. The cynic in me likes, "I hope that I don't fall in love with you," by Tom Waits.

Mr. Waits also sings, "Little Trip to Heaven," "Martha," and "Semi Suite," which are all beautiful. (And this is a dude who is stonehearted saying this, so you know it's good.)

Didn't know it was a love song...

So close no matter how far
couldn't be much more from the heart
forever trusting who we are
and nothing else matters
never opened myself this way
life is ours, we live it our way
all these words I don't just say
and nothing else matters
trust I seek and I find in you
every day for us something new
open mind for a different view
and nothing else matters
never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
but I know
so close no matter how far
couldn't be much more from the heart
forever trusting who we are
and nothing else matters

at least just tell me what the hell is wrong
do you want to eat, do you want to sleep, do you want to drown
just settle down, settle down, settle down
i'll give you candy, give you diamonds, give you pills
give you anything you want, hundred dollar bills
i'll even let you watch the shows you want to see
just marry me, marry me, marry me

i'm so sick of you tonight
you never stay awake when i get home
is something wrong with me, something wrong with you
i really wish i knew, wish i knew, wish i knew
i'll give you candy, give you diamonds, give you pills
give you anything you want, hundred dollar bills
i even let you watch the shows you want to see
because you married me, married me, married me

when i was young i learned a game
where love and happiness were the same
now i'm older and i don't play
i found out the hardest way
i got wasted, she got mad
called me names and she called her dad
he got crazy and i did too
wondered what i did to you
i'll give you candy, give you diamonds, give you pills, give you anything you want, hundred dollar bills
i even let you hear the songs i want to sing
i'll give you anything, anything, anything
anything...

LOL. Perhaps the BEST "love" song ever!!! This is what real love is all about. Forget all that sappy stuff.

my vote for best love song:
sunshine of your love - cream
as a love song? yikes. just...yikes.

also good
hello i love you - the doors
who do you love - george thorogood
yikes again.

romeo and juliet - dire straits
Now that's a love song.

everything from the temptations
of note:
sugar pie honey bunch,
you mean "I Can't Help Myself" -- by the Four Tops

stand by me,
Ben E. King

my girl
ok, that's the Temptations. And a Motown classic.

on that note i take my first statement back,
build me up buttercup is the best love song ever
double yikes.

im sure the doors, cream, led zeppelin, and tens years after have some more good ones that im not thinking of
great bands, not exactly love song crooners.

*note by best love song, im thinking of good songs that happen to be about love

OK.

That's okay. I like some '80's music.

Here's my list:

"Your Song" -- Elton John

"Romeo and Juliet" -- Dire Straits

"My Cherie Amour" -- Stevie Wonder

"My Love" -- Wings

"Never My Love" -- the Association

"Best of My Love" -- the Eagles

"Angel Eyes" -- Jeff Healy

"Don't Want to Miss a Thing" -- Aerosmith

"God Only Knows" -- the Beach Boys

"If You Leave Me Now" -- Chicago

EDIT: Thought of some more--

"Maybe I'm Amazed" -- Paul McCartney

"Let's Get it On" -- Marvin Gaye

"When a Man Loves a Woman"-- Percy Sledge (probably the best "torch song" of all time)

"I Love You" -- the Climax Blues Band

"Heartbeat" by King Crimson is a good one. Or Dylan's "Lay Lady Lay".

Also "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" by The Ramones, but don't try to serenade your woman with that one. It won't work.

Electric Light Orchestra by Electric Light Orchestra.

Strangely enough I lost my virginity to the dulcet tones of Live Cream Volume II

But I'd like to thank everyone else for playing.
