Does anybody else go to a cheap school?

My school's not the worst, but Infotech Systems, possibly my most important subject, uses an outdated version of Visual Basic. We're memorising archaic coding which I can do easier and quicker at home with a newer version of VB.

I can beat that. I have had 3 C++ classes and a Java class. I know more Java than C++. Why? All my teachers in the other classes taught basic shit and how to manually create library functions.

On the upside, though, I think I'm really enjoying programming. I though it would be like maths, but I actually like the coding; every time I use code correctly it feels like I'm creating something.

It just annoys me a bit that we're learning, for example, the code to make splash screens for programs, when new IDEs just have a menu for it, making the code obsolete.

In my highschool, we didn't have text books for Civics or Economics, the American Flag in our History class had 48 stars, and not for the historical value but just because it was that long since they got a new one. We had a science book that said "one day we might even visit the moon" and in home-ec we had a slide show that talked about "some single women forced to work"

yeah, just about all of that was in my senior year of 2000:(

I can't say i'm a fan of VB either. IMHO it has done nothing but furnish script kiddies with a new and terrible weapon. *Shudders*.

But don't despair C++ and java are way beter.

one more thing that might apply that Teh_pantless_hero might agree with:

Mmm. Well, it's Year 12, and all we do is VB. I'm really not good at self-education, so I'll wait for TAFE/Uni.

Uh, nope, my uni cost me $25K/year. And I was there for six years. Still paying for it, and I got my degree 10 years ago. :(

Save your self now. before Vb rotts your brain!

In seriousness(sp) though it's o.k. to get started with. My first programming was with VB I must say now that I havent used VB for sevral months and at the moment i'm realy into assembly language.

That's a bit harsh. I started off with BASIC (on a good ol' Vic20), and now I know more languages than I could count on the fingers of one hand (in binary, of course). Just the other day I wrote this wondeful bit of code:

"+"i+""p""gtg""gt"i"p"\"\"p\"i\"gh\"o\"g+\"o\"p\"i\"gt\"i\"p\"\\\"+\\\"\\\"\\\"p
\"\"i\"gq+\"tg\"+\"i\"gq+\"\\\"i\\\"p\"+\"o\"gq+\"\\\"o\\\"p\"+\"\"gq+\"\"g+\"\"
p\"o\"gq\"o\"+\"+\"pgx"""p"\"+\"\"\"p""i"gq+"tg"+"i"gq+"\"i\"p\"\""+""gq+""g+""p
"""+""i"g+pgx

Verry well. i Digress. what does the code mean? As i said in an relier post i too started with a BASI language.

try this code:
push edx
push ecx
push eax

mov esi, bit_map

cmp eax, 0
jz fin_err_mem

PS. my school is quite cheap too.

Went to one of the most expensive unis in the US, thinking that I was going to go into law and be able to pay for it with relative ease. But then I changed my career plans and took the journalism route. Journalism, unfortunately, doesn't pay nearly as well as law. :(

It's in a language called Smurf (http://esolangs.org/wiki/Smurf). Smurf has no primitive conditionals or looping structures - but it does have a command to execute a string as a Smurf program (throwing away all the current data in the process). The only way to make a loop is to quine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quine) the program but with alterations each time to reflect changes in variables. The code above is a simple version of the Unix 'tac' command (it reverse its input).

Verry.

Some parts are quite complex. Additionaly its Object orientated. I dont use it much but as I said I think its qiute hard.

Bah, BF is easy once you're in the right mindset - I made a multidimensional version of BF (http://esolangs.org/wiki/Sansism) to make it more interesting. Smurf is inherently difficult, due to the complex nature of quining and the need to make a quine every time you want conditional execution.

BF in a 3D memory structure. I can see how that can bee complex.

As i said before i like assembly language. it can be usefull, but only for realy low level stuff. fast though.
