Seriously Disturbing Wal-Mart Commercial...

THE LOST PLANET

This one creeps me out... anyone else seen the Wal-Mart pharmacy commercial getting play on the various networks lately?

The one that has animated images and scenes made up totally of pills... hundreds.. no, thousands of pills and capsules of every shape and color, swirling and reshaping into 'friendly' and playful images with a background soundtrack of kids playing and laughing. The message seeming to be that medication and drugs are a normal, neccesary and 'happy' part of life...

and of course that Wal-Mart is where you need to go to get them.

Freaks me out... so much wrong with the image and all it conveys.

I already refuse to step foot inside a Wal-Mart, this just reinforces my decision.

Commercial sounded like it could have used a voiceover.

Christopher Lloyd comes to mind.

If you'll excuse me, what the bleeding hell is wrong with medication? I'm no fan of Wal-Mart, sure. But even so, I dearly love modern medication. I had four wisdom teeth removed a few weeks back, and without the valium, the vicodin and the clindemyecin that I was on, the surgery would have been excruciatingly painful and would have likely led to an infection.

Drugs (prescription, legal etc) are a perfectly happy, normal part of life. I would not give up modern medicine, particularly drugs, for anything. They save many, many people a day. I say, keep 'em coming.

EDIT: Cough, probably over-reacted there. I just got done reading OceanDrive on the subject of 'Israel should be moved to North America, because that way we have all the evil zionists together'.

I have seen the commmercial, my husband and I were talking about it, and my 3 year old says "you shouldn't take pills unless a doctor says to, and then only what the bottle says" .........

anyway, for many Americans prescription medications are a "way of life" my husband for example has to take 19 pills a day (when he is not "sick" when he is sick it jumps to more than 25 a day) and people who see him and don't know wouldn't even guess that he has a chronic severe disease, luckily those pills keep him well enough to go to work, ect. Before some of them were approved (one just approved less than a year ago) people with his condition were pretty much sick all the time, just waiting to die. He still went to work, but we were all pretty sure he was going to like die at work one day, now we don't worry as much.

I like pain medication. I hate psychiatric medication; it makes me feel all weird. I imagine that must be what normal people feel like. Yucky. :p

I think your dislike of Wal Mart is coloring your view of the commercial. Seems to me the commercial is just relating a place a parent can trust to have the right medication when the kids get sick. Which they do.

If you feel that diabetics can live without insulin, and people with bacterial infections can live without antibiotics, etc., then stop buying medicine.

BTW, not all medicine is "bad" or "unnecessary" or "prone to abuse". Just in your head.

Quite possibly, but I can think of better ways to convey that message!!!

its the ad I think this thread is criticizing, granted its an interpretation but factor in the other circumstantial evidence relating to Walmart and youve got THX1138
