Why The British Can Afford To Wait

Latest news says that the British wanted to wait a bit more before moving in, while the US wanted to move before the plan entered its final stages.

Here's the reason.

Andrew C. McCarthy, a former terrorism prosecutor at the Justice Department, said he believed that British authorities were willing to allow terrorist plots to progress further because, if an attack appeared imminent, they could immediately round up the suspects, even without formal criminal charges.

“They have this fail-safe,” he said. “They can arrest people without charging them with a crime, which would make a big difference in how long you’d be willing to let things run.” He said F.B.I. agents, who are required to bring criminal charges if they wanted to arrest a suspect, had a justifiable fear that they might be unable to short-circuit an attack at the last minute.

Seems like a legal impediment to police action is completely absent in the UK in regards to terrorist plots. A good example of a good law.

As long as it isn't abused for political purposes. How long do you think that would be in the US? ;)

In the UK, such laws are worthless. Conspiracy to Commit Murder is already a crime here. If they had enough evidence to suggest an attack, they had enough evidence to arrest them on that charge; the paperwork does not necessarily need to be presented up-front as long as it is formalised within 30 days of the arrest..

the only problem they have so far is they have found no explosives, no explosive making capabilities, no leader, no links to any terrorist groups etc. the brits are are starting to release them already

could this be the most expensive falling for a hoax ever?

Police in England have reportedly recovered bottles containing peroxide, including some with false bottoms, from a recycling centre close to the homes of some of the arrested suspects.

Are you muslim or of arabic or asian descent? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then apparently it does make you a terrorist now.

The problem with suspected terrorism plots is that the police cannot wait until after the event, so if they believe there is some act about to occur they have to act. If they get it wrong, then they have upset some people and disrupted the air system for a while. The alternative - of not acting when they have suspicions is to risk many unnecessary deaths.

Now the downside of acting early is that the rabid neo-con dogs start yapping away like mad, painting everyone arrested as guilty without any trial or even any real evidence.
