first, I want to apologize if you already discussed that too much, since I wasn't in the forum on the last days.
anyway, here is the passed UN resolution 1701:
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N11173073.htm
lebanon already agreed, israel going to accept it in the next goverment meeting today, and the ceasefire supposed to start tommorow in 5:00 GMT.
the sides will continue their fighting until that time.
any ideas about it?
The ceasefire wont' solve anything because the UN forces won't be able to do anything. The UN is a truly worthless situation. Somalia, Congo, and Sudan have alread proven that one.

at least it had potential.
I think the UN forces will get more power in the resolution.

Why can't we just let the ME kill each other off and celebrate the winner?
Why can't we just let the ME kill each other off and celebrate the winner?
Because "we"'ve been using that strategy in Africa to no avail...

i really hope something comes of it,for the innocents on both sides that are suffering.
at the least it will give them a break from the non stop stress and horror show.
but..and there always is with the m.e.
i fear hezbollah will use it to regroup and rearm, and as pointed out..the un is impotent, and fighting will resume, but with even more ferocity,as the israilis will be able to point out(reasonably)that they abided to ease the suffering when they could have kept rolling, and as soon as hez breaks it(the ceasefire)isreal will go bat fuck crazy on them, and honestly..how can you blame then if they are attacked again.
hate to say it,but isreal DID NOT attack lebanon, they may have used it as an excuse or over reacted..but the fact is,if the hez did not attack them, then isreal would have not retaliated..the blame lays with hezbollah..squarely.
isreal doesnt usually attack people for no apparent reason, imho.
while the palestinians and hezbollah may have legit grievances, attacking civilians is no way to gain my sympathy, nor will it sway the israilis to work with them..the contrary is the norm.
unless it is not about grievances...but just pure hatred for the state and the malice to sacrifice innocents to sway public opinion to their "cause",which is vile at the least.
and apparently not the real intentions of most of the leaders of the groups attacking israel, seeing as the state..israel should be wiped off the map...maybe it is rhetoric...but if a katusha rocket killed my loved ones,i would have a hard time thinking it was only rhetoric, and think...jeez..they want to kill me solely cause i am a jew.

Terms that didn't pass
Israel Terms:

A Peacekeeping group that could actually be useful.
Lebanon Terms:
The Return of those farms even though they actually belong to Syria.
Israel would pull out ASAP.
Hezobolleh\Hamas\Syria\Iran Terms:
Israel Dies...
That's about it...

Unifil has a trully dismal record until now, including cooperation with hezbolla, so I'm not going to bank too much on UN missions. However, I hope to god the fighting stops soon. We're all losing so much with every passing day.
I seriously don't know in the long term, however, because if hezbolla is not rooted out well this time around, we'll be doing the same thing all over again in a few years' time - so maybe the best thing would be to let Israel finish off the dirty work now, and then get the UN forces in, since we all know that the UN is not capapble of *gasp* killing anyone no matter how much they deserve it? I do not think the UN forces, no matter how much authority they have to use force, will in fact pro-actively seek out and eliminate Hezbolla forces from their bunkers and houses.

The UN passed a Chapter Six Resoulution. That means they don't have the ROE to go after Hezbollah. It basically means UNIFIL troops there as observers who can fire if fired upon. Hezbollah will just launch rockets into Israel again and Israel will have to respond.
