A week ago, I saw a purple-faced, black-veined man supporting himself on a walking stick, wheeze out a request for several packs of 20 cigarettes at the supermarket tobacco counter.

Then there's the obese people with shopping trolleys full of frozen microwave and fryer food.

Yeah, those are really clever ideas. I'm guessing they don't care because they are free to indulge themselves with no consequence for anyone else. At least, I hope they have no dependents.

I saw him on some talk show the other night. I didn't remember him as having a personality, yet I could swear I saw the rudiments of such sitting in that sofa.

Sounds kinda like a bunch of my friends. They contemplate whether to buy dinner or cigs. One of them was coughing a TON and spitting stuff out and to make himself feel better, he went for a pack of cigs. He proceeded to cough for the next 15 or so minutes while smoking. People are awesome.

Maybe I'll be like that someday, I don't know. I still enjoy my youthful looks and energy and I can take at least 6 flights of stairs before getting a little winded.

But, then, I eat very well and I exercise.

Isn't this a common human flaw? They know what they are doing is wrong and that it is hurting them but they keep on doing it for the temporary pleasure or gain. I don't know what would work on your sister but perhaps a guilt trip would work? Or persistant nagging?

well, the problem with aborted babies is that it doesn't affect anyone who isn't pregnant.

No no death is no good. Death takes non smokers vegans and vigorous excercisers as well as those fat lazy smokers who so obviously want and deserve to die.
Death even takes rich beautiful people. In fact Death plain laughs at people who act as if not smoking or eating proprely or excercise or doctors can keep them alive and healthy forever. They die just the same number of times everybody else does. They just get to try to act superior while being laughable in the meantime.

I unintentionally made my neighbor's mom stop smoking when I was young. I would always have problems breathing when I would go over to his house to hang out, and his mom, (the smoker) felt terrible about it. So, she quit and I have been friends with her son for almost 14 yrs now.

you do realize that even with legal alcohol sales, moonshine is still constantly made, and the feds have a hell of a time stopping it?

Not to mention the examples of every other illegal drug created.

Not to mention the fact that me drinking or smoking only hurts me. And drinking can be beneficial. And I don't need the government telling me I can't do something if I am an adult.
