Norwegian fishermen get crabs from Russians.

Giant king crabs are flocking to Norwegian fishing grounds. They don't belong there, however. Some say that they're an ecological threat. A very tasty ecological threat.

Environmentalists and fishermen in northern Norway are warning of a Russian invasion of alien crustaceans which are threatening to ruin the local sea fauna.

So what's the big deal? As humans we're experts at harvesting a species to extinction. Just start crabbing and I'll do my part by going to seafood buffets.

I saw those. Absolutely massive buggers.

You wouldn't want to find one of those in a rock pool.

Wished they served those in seafood restaurants. Maine lobster is pretty weak in comparison.

They do serve them in restaurants -- at least, they do here in the States.
I prefer snow crabs to king crabs but hey -- if they want a volunteer to consume some surplus crabs, they can send me some! ;)

Invader species seem to be troubling fisheries worldwide. These jellyfish showed up off Japan and Korea last year, and seriously damaged nets, although apparently their sting is only moderate...still, pretty scary:

Wikipedia: "In an attempt to utilize the jellyfish in a productive manner, coastal communities in Japan are doing their best to promote jellyfish as a novelty food, sold dried and salted.

Students in Obama, Fukui (Japan) have managed to turn them into tofu, and jellyfish collagen is reported to be beneficial to the skin."

'k. Really, like drunk communist says, what's the big deal. Crab is:

1. Yummy

2. Easily harvested to near extinction.

There should be no problem dealing with this.

nonono, It is a big problem... we must send volunteers over to help eat... eliminate the crab invasion!

can you imagine the pot shortage over there... the sudden decrease of the butter supply... it's a catastrophie!

Good point. I volunteer for this onerous duty. It's tough, but someone has to do it.
