Internationalizing Holy Land

My first thread…here it goes. Jon Stewart mentioned this in an interview on TDS. I found it interesting and worthy of discussion. He (probably not the first suggested) that Jerusalem be an international city. If “holy” (those of religious and historic significance) territories in the Middle East were internationalized what would be the outcome? What would it take to be plausible?

I can't see those who are currently in charge of Jerusalem & the holy land, willingly relinquishing their control. I don't think it could be done forcibly, with any hope of success.

A bit of background, if you could. Who is Jon Stewart & what is TDS?

A comedian. He has a TV show called The Daily Show. Sort of a send up of current events and whatnot. Some people seem to think that it's a legitmate source of news and comentary however.

Anyhoo, I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Jerusalem should be given to the buddhists. It's about time they got their crack at the screwing up the middle east whip.

Giving jerusalem to the buddhists?

I thought I came up with that. :(

Nuke Jerusalem. Move everybody out and nuke it. Send it back to God. If that crust of dirt was ever 'holy', that washed away in blood a long time ago. They can fight over it in 10,000 years. :)

It would settle a problem or two.

One of those is that we ( global community ) can then rule and reign Jerusalem on the basis of majority-ownership, and not by the unpredictability of popular votes in the middle east.

I don't see the harm in handing over 'ownership rights' amount to, say, 20% of Jerusalem to a collection of Buddhists and Hindus.

Proportionality to be applied to all major religions: I can live with that.

Or.... we give it to Al-Qaeda THEN nuke it....

You could even use this as a way of dis/proving God.
If it's so damn holy and important to God, then surely he'll stop the nukes from going off.

As for moving everyone out - good idea. Except I'd suggest next allowing all the fundies on all sides to head in just before the nukes. I'm sure they'd all love to die in the most holy of cities.

Well, some seem to think Fox is a legitimate source of news and commentary, so what's your point?
At least Stewart makes it clear his a comedy show.

We can improve on this: before testing whether God will stop the nukes,
cram the city full of atheists of all kind.
And find out if God is willing to blast 'em without nukes...
