I run (well er...jog) quite a few miles a day near the train tracks near my house usually follow it down to the village on the other end (tis a short track)

no idea about time but I go about 3-ish and get back at about 7 so its far (I get up early so the joggers won't laugh at me though I've nearly been killed at least once so I suggest going about 6 unless you can run like bat shit on fire)

Depends. Prior to my "retirement" in February;

100; 12.1
200; 24.3
400; 52.7
400 Hurdles; 58.9
800; 2.09.12

At present, I would add at least a second to all but the 100 metres time:D

I can maintain a 6 minute 15 second pace per mile for 11 miles - then I start to slow down.

And I'm 45 years old.

Overall times don't matter.

What matters is what you can carry from A to B in a set time.

Often 70lbs plus.

Often 40 miles plus.

Don't let the whippets bother you.

I can go 40 miles in a day with 85 pounds in a pack on my back.

25 miles in a day if it's 125 pounds.

At 45? Who the fuck are you? That's like the regiment.

Old habits die hard. I was in the 2/502nd here until the early 1990s.

I can shoot, too.

In the US we call it "humping". I believe your term is "yomp".

No, no, no. That's what the GPMG is for.

The easiest race for me was the 800. The 400, though, that one's a real killer. Someone told me once that the 300meter mark in that race is the "fuck this" point - after 300 you just want to give up, sprinting that long is so hard.

I couldn't for the life of me figure out how that stupid sight on the SA80 was supposed to work. That little pointy thing inside - if you needed to hold over for a longer shot, the cone would mask the target. Better off throwing rocks.

speaking of which, I still have an Operation Granby plaque from one of the UK chaps I met in the desert. He came over to the US after the war and visited me, and brought the plaque.

Yea, it's rubbish. They were all supposed to have telescopic sights originally for target shooting. Never happened tho'.

It was more of a switch to 5.56 than anything else.

Edit: I'm not a great shot, but I can consistently hit a man sized target at 700-800 yards with an iron sight using an SLR. :p
