Is there anyway to get the old version? I hate this new Live crap. Why is everyone changing? AIM, MSN, Yahoo's home page? They make everything so bleh.

Good to see I'm not the only one who couldn't get used to that new interface with MSN Live and AIM Triton.

Anyway, I found the version before MSN Live on Microsoft's website, amazingly enough.

I don't think the interface is all that much changed from 7.5...

Aaaah the joys of owning a Mac :) I may not be able to do webcams, voice clips or nudges, but in the end, who really needs that?

Besides, if I want that and more, I'll just use iChat.

I just got a replacement for my old computer(screen cracked) and it had the old versions...I also lost my favorites. :'( Forgot to save them.

Its windows port is not as stellar as its native *nix version, unfortunately.

Not quite but I have not had overly bad things to say about it ... Not quite as good but it is still fairly young in comparison, the latest version had some of the bugs fixed and some cool extentions

As long as its functional I don't really much care what it looks like. Plus it's not really that different.

Once that's been said, I still use Trillian more.

File transfer is still a mess, and uPnP is non-existent. For the MSN protocol that is basically a death knell, seeing as it is so dependent on it for proper router coexistence.

Nudges are a crime against God and man and we both know it. The only possible use they have is to irritate people who deserve irritating.

MSN being basically popular instead of unknown like Jabber means non-techy people are going to be using it. That means most people. Telling them "No, I can't accept your file... no, I can't talk to you... no, I can't do any of that" is, well, alienating as most of those non-techy people make heavy use of those features.

For MSN? aMSN. Once properly compiled to support AA, it's pretty neat and actually has working file transfers with a little help. ;)

*nix in general? Ubuntu for regular-use desktops, Gentoo for "fun."

Ahhh had played around with aMSN just never got real used to it

General*nix prefference here is Ubuntu for desktops FreeBSD for servers and Gentoo for the tough boxes (we had a few octane machines that we needed some of the flexability for)

Tangent: Before Ubuntu I loathed and despised Gnome. Now, I can't stand KDE and Qt. Oh, why can't someone make an Amarog? :\

Hah, you can't fool me with a pretty background pic. Open a few windows, the file manager, some settings dialogues. Then we'll talk ugly widgets and horrible icons and loony separators. :D

Oh, it abuses them (http://www.xfce.org/images/screenshots/snap_VI.jpg) is more like it. No matter what you do, they end up looking cramped and the XFCE apps are the worst in having what I call "windows 3.11-itis." (http://www.xfce.org/images/screenshots/snap_VII.jpg)
