Lieberman lost his primary to Ned Lamont. He vows to run as an Independent.

My question is: Why?

Hell, if Connecticut Democrats won't vote for his ass, doesn't that pretty much sum things up? :p

Isn't it more or less saying that "If I can't be senator here, no democrat can..." Unless Joe (I can call him Joe, we're buddies...) got beat by enough that it would still beat the republican challenger. In which case why would you sign up for that kind of beating?

I don't know enough about that situation really. It'll be interesting to watch.

We should thank Leiberman. He's given us an ideal alternative to those hoary old chestnuts about failure/stupidity.
Now instead of saying, for example,
"He's so dumb he couldn't...

-organise a piss-up in a brewery
-get laid in a brothel"

we can now use,

-get a Democrat elected in Connecticut"

Heh. We elected a republican governor.

Of course, he's in prison now. :p Still, we elected him. :D

You elected felons?

*Thinks of David Duke*

Ought to strip such folks of all political rights - on first offense.

He wasn't a felon when he was elected. :p

Nah. He's long gone. Resigned, went to jail for a year. Wore a house arrest bracelet for another four months. Now he's on three years probabtion and community service. I would say his political career is over.

Well, technically you could have said the same thing about Marion Berry, but I'm guessing he doesn't have the "come hell or high water" support that Berry had, does he?

I still don't get that. I wonder the same thing Chris Rock did; "Who was so bad they lost to a crackhead?"

Excerpt from the debate:

Marion Barry: "If you elect me, I promise to lower unemploment rates and raise education standards."

Opponent: "I promise I won't smoke CRACK!!!"

Debate over. :D

Well, I can tell you why they did it, but not really the "why did you do that?" Basically, he just happened to come along at a time when African-Americans were more interested in having a mayor in a major metropolitan area than in who that mayor was, and he delivered the goods to the blacks of the inner city. They in turn were well-nigh unflinchingly loyal to him. I'm not sure if he could be as successful now that they aren't quite as desperate for any kind of authority figure in power, but it definately remains a cautionary tale in democracy.

I'm guessing with the analysis, I just missed the point, however. It's really something you should just look at and revel in the Whisky Tango Foxtrotness of the whole situation.

ACTUALLY a better thread title would be CONSERVATIVES WIN!

The democrat vote will be so split now w/ the intelligent dems voting for Lieberman and the buffoon hardcore leftards voting lamont that whatever Republican runs may not even need to campaign. Go Joe Go!
