He Was Already In Pieces When I Ran Over Him

Really appalling. Not just run over by one vehicle and then left for dead, but run over by three in succession, all of which drove away.

I don't think it's possible for someone to run over an adult and NOT notice it - at the very least, you're going to hit a bump as you take a wheel over the body.

What is wrong with people?

Meh ... I do it to squirrels all the time.

Of course, this is in Florida. I've said it once, I'll say it again: There is something really, really wrong with Florida.

I once ran 65 feet of truck over a cat who wouldn't move when I honked the horn at it... it just sat there... I thought it would panic and get smashed, but it sat dead center between the tires and avoided them.. I know because I made a U-turn and it was still there. :p

If the driver was a very large truck then, I kind of understand why he/she would just drive on. Trucks flatten everything in their way, but as for a normal car - you'd feel the *bump* much more.
Not bad

Most people either stop or intentionally flee the scene when they hit a walking pedestrian. However once the pedestrian is layed out flat the mindset changes. Especially at night. There have been a number of people who have committed suicide by jumping off an overpass onto a road below. There have been a number of stories of these being hit many many times by drivers before the first one stops. I suspect its a little bit that the drivers arent certain what theyve hit and convince themselves it is another species of animal and it's a little bit "Well he was dead already and it isnt my fault, I dont want to be blamed or involved."

A semi truck is a fragile thing, the only steel on them is in the frame for the most part. The rest is plastic and fiberglass. If a big truck hit a person, they'd surely know it becuase they'd of done 4-5k damage to their truck.

SUVs, now those are made of metal.

Depends which truck you're looking at. Some are heavier than others and better built. My company has 30 or so wrecked Volvos and Freightliners lying around the main maintanence yard near here at any given time, and some have little damage after hitting elk and such. I parked one night next to a guy who had hit a deer earlier in the day and he had little damage - broken headlight and wrecked grill, but nothing internal. I've never hit anything myself, but I hear it's not that bad.

Depends on how you hit it. You can figure if you hit a standing person, even a glancing hit your looking at getting your bumper straightened/replaced, losing a light, and maybe cracking the hood.

Deer, depending on where they hit you can do a fair bit of damage, a center grill hit sucks.

Naw, it moved the second time.. :p I was in middle-of-nowhere Arkansas and missed my turn.. some dirt path barely wide enough to get through. Didn't want to risk getting stuck without calling ahead, hence the U. :)

You're probably right.. I guess I just don't think about that stuff too much since, as a company driver, I don't have to pay for any of the damages. :p

Aha! I just remembered though, contrary to my earlier post, that I did hit a turkey once in the Poconos.. dunno how I forgot, since I took so many pictures. No damage that I could tell. Kinda neat seeing a wild turkey up close. :)

Just tell them cars are the modern coyotes, getting rid of the old, weak and stupid, so that the rest can thrive.

Look... if I stopped my car every time I ran over somebody, I'd never get to work on time.
