Ok, this was started in my Al Franken thread, and I just came up with a slogan that I thought was so funny, that it deserved it's own thread. Ok, so in this thread you guys come up with '08 elections slogan you would like to see! Here's mine.

Hillary in '08, let's secure comedians future, TODAY!

A Vote for Jeb Bush is a vote for utter and complete chaos!

Vote for Hillary, after all isn't it about time we had a few laughs?

Vote for Al Sharpton, why, well honestly we were suprised we got this far.

Vote for Jesse Jackson is a vote for all minorities to get their own race card! "Race Card" is a registered trademark of Jesse Jackson Co.

Vote for Guillani, because comon, what choice do we really have at this point?

In the general slogan arena I have a suggestion.

Instead of the normal "VOTE!" or youth oriented "Be rockin Teh muddafuggin Vote biatch! Peace Out" or the elderly oriented "VOTE! then put your "I voted" sticker on your pillbox so you dont try to vote again this election." I want a universal get-the-vote-out slogan.

And here that slogan is.

READ!* THINK! then VOTE!

In all seriousness, I think that just isnt gonna happen.

I think the nearer and nearer the election gets, the more and more the Republicans will distance themselves from Bush.
I also think the Democrats will completely villianize his administration, and present themselves as the "Party That Can Fix Everything After Bush Fucked It All Up."

I think the Reps will have to appeal to more people in the middle, IE; the fence sitters who would prefer a more moderate candidate.
Jeb Bush is a Neo-Con, and cant appeal to those people.

McCain might.
Guilliani might.

So, basically, Jeb Bush will be un-electable becuase he's the brother of the man who the Dems will post as "Worst President Ever", in the 2008 campaign.

Your gonna have to vote for McCain, likely.

I don't think there's as much antipathy for G.W. in the real world as there might be on the internet, but either way, Jeb has an entirely different and more articulate style and manner than W, Rudy or McCain. He's got bipartisan support in a swing state, ran a decent platform to election and re-election and generally proved capable of solid stumpwork. He's got youth to balance out a McCain ticket if it happens and is popular among some important demographic groups. I think he's a walk if he's up for it.

Im almost positive that the Dems will take an aggressive stance on the mistakes of the previous administration.
They will do this by attacking the party of the opposition, since the President cant run again.
For Jeb, the very fact that he is the Presidents brother would make him a target for all of it.

2012?
That may be different.

As for the apathy toward Bush.
Look at Congress everyday.

They are distancing themselves more and more from an increasingly unpopular president.
You just wait till the next election.

At this stage in the game, we've had almost 6 years of Pres. Bush.. events have caused those years to be rather exhausting, if ultimately rewarding, politically. Politicians want to look like they have new ideas, a fresh take on things, etc., and the Bush Administration is deeply Old Guard, on top of the political burnout the last 6 years has produced in a lot of people. Al Gore did the same in 2000 by distancing himself from Clinton, despite Clinton's generally decent image.. there's a point when you distance yourself from the status quo in the interest of waking up your base.

I see what you mean, but I think that"

a) The Republicans will us the Bush adminsitration as the Old Guard to be distanced from.

b) Jeb does not possess the needed popularity, to bridge his handicap of family to Bush.

c) The Democrats, like I said earlier, will absolutely demonize the current administration, to gain support from the far-left, and middle.
This will draw swing voters, if they can dredge up a strong candidate.

and finally,
d) Jeb would be hard-pressed to convince those swing voters that his policies would not be a continuation of his brothers current extremely unpopular efforts.

Any idea how unpleasantly close things got last time with rural african american voters - who have after all a high tendency to be Evangelical?
It idn't going to take a lot to make those votes swing the other way.

The point that the Dems need to make is that they semi-openly disdain the far left, in the same way that the REPs treat those Log Cabin Folks.

You may have a point.

But wouldnt highliting the mistakes of the Bush Crew, and focusing on those issues, be enough to automatically bring in the far-lefters?

So in essence, all they have to do is appeal to the swing voters, and present a strong candidate, who doesnt appear "Soft on Defense".

If they can..they'll have the whole thing wrapped up.

The far left will either do lockstep ( in which case you got 'em, and still get things your way ) OR will pull you into the profile that was so succesful for Ralph Nader ( in which case you lose everything. )
Neither scenario calls for being nice to 'em. ;)

( Showing Kerry as strong on defense ( arguable - but that don't matter much ) came close - except for the unwillingness of certain segments to do lockstep. )

Elections are ALWAYS won in the center. That even goes for the REPs, in a US scenario in which 66% of the voters are basically Conservative.
