Maybe there is at least one smart Christian?

I was looking up sources for college outreach ministries, and on one of the sites, I found this article:

Preserving Marriage is a Joke
by Robert Malone - March 20, 2004Polvero Frequent Columnist
Christians screwed up that concept of marriage a long time ago, by getting divorced for unbiblical reasons, having separations from marriages, and forcing two kids to get married because one of them has become pregnant.

A lot of Christians have an issue with the idea of homosexuals getting married, because they say God intended marriage to be between a man and a woman. They say we need to preserve marriage by making it illegal for homosexuals to get married. Well actually God intended marriage to be a Holy union between a man and a woman. Christians screwed up that concept of marriage a long time ago, by getting divorced for unbiblical reasons, having separations from marriages, and forcing two kids to get married because one of them has become pregnant. Preserving marriage as it is now is a big joke because many people all over America do not get married under God’s concept of how a marriage should be.

There are many people all over America who do not want to get married under God’s concept of how a marriage should be. Some people don’t even believe that there is a God to begin with, yet if they are heterosexual no one complains or throws a fit if they get married. Why not? Why aren’t Christian people rising up against all those who go to Vegas and get married by Elvis or someone in a drive through window? Why are we so against homosexual people getting married and not against heterosexual people who get married and defile the concept of a Holy union between a man and a woman? If we as Christians want to preserve God’s concept of marriage, we should first fix marriage in the church. And after that is done we can start preserving marriage by speaking out against everybody who gets married under any concept other than God’s concept, and not single out a group of people.

I know some Christians who are against homosexual marriage becoming legal just because the people are homosexual. I sometimes wonder why so many Christians are against homosexual people, and why are some Christians afraid of homosexual people? Is it the word ‘homosexual’ that bothers them? Do some Christians think that if they meet a homosexual person, that the homosexual person will come on to them? Do you want to know the sin behind homosexuality? The sin is fornication. It’s the same sin that a lot of Christians struggle with. So what’s the big deal? Why is being a homosexual considered a really big sin, when in fact there is nothing wrong with being a homosexual, the sin is practicing homosexuality? And why do so many Christians compare homosexuality to murder and drugs when we all commit the same sin? And don’t tell me that practicing homosexuality is nasty when heterosexual people do the same thing. Practicing homosexuality is not nasty; there are just some things that we think are nasty that both heterosexual and homosexual people do when they get behind closed doors.

I’m sorry I had to vent a little, but back to the subject at hand. My point is that we should not try to preserve marriage by fighting against our brothers and sisters, we should try to fix it first because we all screwed up the concept of God’s marriage, and we are all screwed up.

I especially like the bolded part. I am glad to see I am not the only one that feels this way

Yes, because being Christians and not agreeing with your political view makes them dumb.. Just to note, I am Catholic and I don't really care what people do in the privacy of their own homes. However, to call someone stupid just because they don't agree with your views, is well, stupid.

And yet they persist. This guy does have a point, but I don't think the others will listen to him.

I don't think the point is political.. I think he has a point about how christians seem to be good at pointing fingers, without realizing that they have 4 pointing back at them...Meaning, Christians are mostly hypocritical. He is right about how we need to get things right in the church, before trying to change the world.

If people really have fingers pointing back at them when they point, then they're very weird pointers.

Thank God I'm Catholic then, the church is so slow, even the Sloth is beating it.

My other fingers generally point to the right or to some spot on the ceiling behind me when I point.

so anyways... I am writing an article for that site now...Here is part of it:

In today's Church there is a division growing amongst brothers and sisters in Christ. Whether it is political, social or whatever, it is a divide none the less. We cannot allow this to continue to happen. In a world full of darkness, we must be a light to help guide it. But like a flashlight, we cannot shine if parts of us will not work together. Some of us are batteries to help start the charge, others are the light bulbs to do the shining, and still other are wires to carry electrical charges. What if the batteries refuse to give power? Or the wires refuse to allow the charge to pass? The light will never show.

Unity amongst beleivers was obviously something Christ desired to occur after He departed this world. John 17 verses 11 and 21-24 show that Jesus prayed for his Disciples to be unified even as He and God were unified as one.

aww thanks ;)

oh, and about the article (if you can call it that) I couldn't really follow much, it's pretty redundant and incoherent, but basically he says "Christians are hypocrites, and so we should just do whatever we want because if they aren't doing what I think they should then nothing else really matters"

is that it?

It is a bizarre attempt at "reasoning" that just doesn't make sense.

Still, I've read the New Testament many times, and looking at the words in red, I still haven't found the line that says, "suck the dick, lose the kingdom".

I could care less what Paul says - he's not Jesus.

In reading the books of Samuel (OT), I have noticed that whoever wrote it, unlike the rest of the books' authors, thought homosexuality was OK.

"...Jonathan became one in spirit with David and he loved him as himself." (NIV)

"...the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul" (KJV)

"And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt." (NIV)

What does this mean? Made a covenant? Gay marriage? De-robed himself in front of another man? How cute, almost Brokeback Mountain-ish.

"After the boy had gone, David got up from the south side of the stone and bowed down before Jonathan three times, with is face to the ground. Then they kissed each other and wept together - but David wept the most." (NIV)

Not getting the point yet?

"I grieve for you, Jonathan my brother; you were very dear to me. Your love for me was wonderful, more wonderful than that of women."

That should do it.

Are you somehow seriously of the severely mistaken opinion that I oppose gays?

Speaking as a practicing bisexual, if you DO think that I somehow oppose gays, you need to pull that vibrator out of your ass and change the batteries.
