i shouldn't have expected any better from Adobe...

well i've waited all day (been busy) and finally had time to install the new software that arrived today: Adobe CS2. expensive stuff at coming very close to £1000 for the premium package... you'd kinda expect it to work wouldn't you?
i've now tried to install it, ooh, somewhere between 5 and 10 times, and every time it just randomly crashes after i agree to the (all important!) licence agreement. :( :(

... which is very fucking annoying.
going to have to get on the phone or email to adobe customer services tomorrow (its past midnight and i can't be arsed now)... a prospect that doesn't remotely fill me with joy as a) i hate being treated like an idiot by customer services telephone oiks, and b) i've been repeatedly ignored by adobe in requesting information about their products before, culminating in a rude email which they did eventually reply to, basically saying "we don't care" and "stop bugging us - we're trying to sit on our piles of money here"

add to that the fact that i have found their software to be buggy and very non-intuitive in terms of GUI, and that i was only making this "upgrade" from CorelDRAW because the printer we work with has been bugging me for months, and i'm starting to regret spending a grand on something that won't even install :headbang:

anyway, rant over. anyone else had similar issues with adobe products? please don't tell me i shouldn't have bought it cos its too late for that now  :p

It's amazing how badly companies treat you when you've just given them huge wads of cash. I mean, for £1000 I don't think it's too much to ask that they send a team over the install it for you, perhaps while a nice lady gives you a soothing massage and brings you drinks.

It really sucks to be you now. Though i've never spent a grand on software, I have had my fair share of problems with Windows and other programs, compatibility issues up the wazoo. I really think that they could come up with something more reliable, but they won't.

Heh, tried running Far Cry on my 64-bit XP machine this weekend.

Installed it. It does nothing. CD just whirrs for a few seconds, then goes quiet. And that's it.

though last time i looked, Far Cry doesn't cost a grand ;) :p

ah most of the time things are fine. i use a fair bit of expensive software and i never have any troubles, and no OS/Windows problems either... all my software-related computer problems in the last year or so have been down to Adobe products. i think they just hate me :P

It's no better at the high end.

My department bought Adobe Lifecycle Extensions Server for umpteen megabucks (the one-year telephone support service agreement was $27,000!) and we couldn't get it to do shit for weeks. When we finally got the damn thing running, it couldn't do what we wanted it to do (namely, put digital signatures on PDF documents) in a reliable way. We could use the documents under Adobe Reader 6 or Adobe Reader 7, but not both.

Found out afterwards that they were 'aware of the issue' but had no plans to fix it, now or ever. They're bastards. Pure, unadulterated bastards.

christ... that's terrible

i read reviews on amazon and places before i got this saying "junk software that never works - do not buy!" but i figured they were just noobs with crap computers or something.... i guess i was wrong :(

now COREL, there's a nice company :) been using them for years, no problems, everything works well and support is good, and they were really nice to me at this trade show a few years back (even if they didn't give me the free software i asked for :p)

Luckily, I've yet to have any bad experiences with Adobe, or any other company. I doubt my luck will last, though. I won't be too surprised if there's something wrong with one of the computer parts I've been ordering lately, for instance.

If nothing else, this sounds like the perfect good reason to start collecting dog shit in the park, putting it in a box, sealing it airtight, and sending it off to the company. http://www.studip.uni-goettingen.de/pictures/smile/misthaufen.gif

Not that I would ever do anything like that, nor encourage anyone else to do so!!! (Just to make sure, eh?)

While we're bashing "a dopey" - which freeware is more reliable than their fucked-up Reader 6.0 (7.0 won't even run on my Win98SE machine) which takes forever to load and even stays "active" after I exitted it properly?

Oh, and good luck on the phone call tomorrow. Don't take any shit from them, mate!!!

Fuck the only software on this computer that I've paid for is Windows XP (same key for two comps) Diablo2LOD and Battlefield2. The rest is open (or atleast free) software.

Adobe CS2 is photoshop, right? Not very many decent alternatives for you.

actually in dollars (US) its closer to $1900 at the current exchange rate :p

(and not quite - photoshop CS2 is part of the CS2 suite, but you also get Illustrator CS2 for vector graphics, InDesign CS2, and other cool stuff)

its not really for my needs (i'd have been happy staying with Corel, really) but mostly cos our printer was getting so naggy...

done, done, done, and done.

it seems to not like the fact this is a Centrino (Pentium-M) chip i think, cos it doesn't load on another laptop we have here, but does on a Athlon64. so.... bah. will just ask techincal people what to do, and if they can't help will just send it back
Not bad
08-08-2006, 13:30
The worst bit is that Adobe has got it's greedy little paws on macromedia and now you have to acknowlege it by downloading Adobe Flash player..
Why cant Adobe just limit itself to Photoshop products for the business of screwing customers out of ridiculously bloated piles of money?

FFS there is no need to also hobble Flash and Shockwave with Adobethink. Dont even get me started on what outdated anomalies of a bygone era PDF files are. They'd go mercifully extinct if people would simply just quit using them.

Seems like yer having a total nightmare....silly question but what have Adobe done to help you? Have spoken to them?

I am in the IT support arena myself but infrastructure (ITC) and if I have any problems I am straight on the phone to either tech support or my account manager....

Someone mentioned the updates being rather large (8mb)....that is just plain wrong. (not the poster but that updates are that size)
