The 'What makes a good thread' Thread

Well, let's start by defining a good thread.

-Many views and responses
-An interesting, original topic
-Something that makes people want to post again and again
-A topic that anyone, of any age nationality or race can answer
-Something that keeps people debating and not flaming
-A thread that can make you feel good after reading about it
-A thread that may inspire you to research it further
-A thread that can receive a limitless amount of differing ideas

So, here are my rules for creating a "good" thread.

--Avoid the overdone topics of God, Feminism, The US, Bush, and Abortion.....and Chuck Norris :headbang: .
--Make sure that you know what you're talking about. It's a terrible feeling when you are proved absolutely wrong on a topic YOU started.
--Follow the rules. Why get a topic locked?
--Make sure, when debating, to listen to the side. If you get to emotional and shut everyone else out, they'll stop debating with you.
--Try and make people laugh/smile. They'll want to come back and see what new, funny replies come up.
--On the other end of the line there are living, breathing people. Never forget that.

Feel free to refine or introduce new rules ;)

I have a few ideas:

-can you love a gingerbread man?

-post videos of you shaking that fang to [insert upbeat song here]

-NS recipes thread (already made one before but meh that was ages ago)

-the “hairy” thread

-best upbeat/pub song ever

-can you karaoke? Prove it!

-call to powers saucy picture thread (lots of pictures of me guaranteed YAY!)

-can you boogie or is the boogie man your worst enemy

-the what lives under your bed thread

We should abort Bush in the name of Feminism, abolish the US, and elect Chuck Norris as the leader of our new country, if God is willing.

Haha! Already this thread is tainted!

Another just came to mind.

--When typing, write as you would speak. Meaning, speak as properly as you can, using capitalization and punctuation in any language that you may happen to write in. No matter how cool it may seem to write like 7h!s, it's irratating to read.

The things you mention above may make a good thread, but for it to be truly extraordinary it needs to talk about either cars or cricket.

I've never made a good or original thread in my life. My threads are like senior pornos. Overdone and not pleasant to see.

Oh, I would certainly love to see spongebob dangling from a tree or be taken to the Gallows Pole!

No, on August 28th, I'm gonna buy the new album! Hopefully it'll be in the range of Brave New World and make me forget about Dance of Death (which sucks big time and even the band has admitted to it). Only one song is shorter than 5 minutes! I'm excited [and scar(r)ed] at the same time.

The only two concerts of Iron Maiden in Germany this year are on Dec. 7th (my birthday and I so want tickets to that show!) and on Dec. 8th (already sold out!!). Trouble is, the one on the 7th is way in the South of Germany, so getting there is another problem, let alone getting my hands on a ticket...

I took a look on eBay today and boy, they want everything short of your soul for a center stage standing room ticket.:mad::mad: Those bastards!

Only having two shows in Germany when they could sell out at least four, that is fucking poppycock!

another one is a thread that doesn't put anyone on the defensive. Opposing views, yes, but threads that starts with no negativity are great!

I always like threads that deal with deeper, more menaingful long-term issues rather than those that deal with merely topical issues or "today's headlines".

You know, in all honesty, I've tried to keep the few threads I've started, to be 'original', but the ones that get the most traffic, are the ones you expect to get the most traffic.

Some people, are just masters of coming up with thread titles to draw the masses.

I find the ones, the non-flamey ones that is, that draw the most attention are the ones that ask 'What do YOU think of <insert topic here>', and make sure it's a stereotypical topic.

EDIT: I take that back. The threads that get the most traffic are the ones that ask people to show pictures of themselves. Even if you don't post, everyone's watching. ;)
