Woman Beaters

Earlier today, outside my apartment, I heard a couple arguing. It went on for awhile, and got pretty loud. Why they had to do that in the breeze way of the building, I don't know, but they did. I'm sick today, but I got off my couch to look out the door peephole and see what was up. I did not see, but heard an extremely loud bang against the wall, that literally shook the building. I am almost certain he threw her against the wall.

I walked out there, not to start trouble but hoping my presence would make this guy not want to be see attacking his girlfriend.

I'm 5 foot 10, 220 lbs, I was wearing a Marine Corps. T-Shirt and probably look pretty ragged since I haven't cut my hair in weeks nor shaved a in a few days. The dude, I swear to god, backed his ass as close to the wall on the other side of the breezeway as he could and just stared at me in fear. He knew I knew what had happened. I didn't say anything to him but I put on my best disciplined look as I could and marched down stairs. As soon as I did that, the guy left.

First of all, do you all think I did the right thing?

Second, how could a guy do that to his girlfriend? What kind of sick person does that!?!?

Well done ,young man. You were wearing a USMC T-shirt, but are you actually semper fidelis? You don't read like the jarheads I know.:)

Violence against women by men is unacceptable unless the woman is:

a)armed with an offensive weapon and about to inflict serious injury against an innocent person

b)commiting a serious crime

c)literally requesting it (for foreplay or such)

I made eye contact with her as I walked by, she looked scared, but seemed fine. She left immediately after, and from a distance, I made sure the guy didn't follow.

I usually could have, especially because this guy was relatively small in stature. But I'm sick today... :(

That, and I don't want to go to jail.

Yeah, we civilised society is crying out for people to commit assault in the name of justice.

Nice. I would've done it a wee bit differently, though, since I'm the same height but so much lighter.

I would've headed straight for the guy and gotten in his face. The only thing I'd do is give him the coldest stare possible. And I'm talking all but an inch from his face. No words, nothing. Just a stare.

I'm sure it'd be very unnerving for a very skinny guy to do that.

lol! I think he was afraid of that Marine Corps. T-Shirt. I look the part, everyone who knows me says it. And I can act it very well, even down to the parade ground-eske movements. And as soon as he saw that Golden Eagle Globe and Anchor on my shirt, he backed off really quickly lol

Violence against women is one of the most severe cases of human rights abuse in the world today, mainly because it is so widespread. Here in the west we human rights advocates are making progress to eliminate it. Organisations like V-Day are helping to stem it worldwide with programmes like their sanctuaries for women at risk of violence.

You absolutely did the right thing.

It takes a special kind of shithead to strike a woman, and every attempt to let that sort of person know just how shit-like they are is noble.

I don't actually see how Wanderjar's behaviour was biased. This is a generalisation, I know, but women are generally physically weaker and therefore less able to defend themselves against a usually physically stronger without some kind of equaliser. If a man is beating a woman, it is fairly obvious who started the violence, and just as obvious who is going to come off worse. If she had been pickpocketing him or something he would restrain her, not knock her around until he got bored.

Using an example of two guys arguing is different. For starters, they are just arguing, there is no physical violence involved. Case in point: I'm arguing with you right now, but I'm not beating you with a two-by-four, nor do I feel any urge to. In a fight between two men, it is very hard to tell who started it, and often hard to tell who will win.

And Wanderjar, dude, you did exactly the right thing. Maximum impact, minimum force. You got the woman out of danger without putting yourself at risk of injury or incarceration. I salute you.

Disciplining your woman is like disciplining your child: there's a line between acceptable and abusive. It's a shame this kind of thing happens in a society like ours. I think it's because no one is raised to have respect for women anymore.

A LOT of women deserve worse than being thrown against a wall, yet that does not mean that you should do it. I think you handled things well. I have a neighbor who has a husband that beat her up and she got a protection from abuse order against him. I have heard comotion over there on two separate times. Once I loaded some guns and kept them behind my door and went out to ivestigate unarmeed but with the guns handy. The other time I went out unarmed and investigated and then called the police.

First, the guy was white. Second, because the woman was shouting "Give me back my car keys!".

I was in the same situation awhile back. My neighbor was beating his GF, so I called 911, then went out to stop him. He and I were about the same size, but he made himself scarce before I got there. I stayed with the woman until the cops got there.

The sad thing is, she stayed with him, and there were several more incidents before she finally left him.

You shouldn't have to discipline your woman. She is her own person! Shes an adult too, and doesn't need disciplining. Saying anything different is messed up.
