Time to end The Simpsons?

Am I the only one who think it's time for Fox and Matt Groening to end The Simpsons? It had a great run, and I don't think any other TV show (animated or not) will run as long as The Simpson's have, but the past few seasons of The Simpons's have been stale. The last espisode where I really laughed my butt off was the one about Catholicism and Bart and Homer converting to Catholicism. Other than that, the show just now get a chuckle from me. What do yall think, is it time to retire The Simpsons?
Time to get the gun, and take old yeller out back.

They are still Sunday at 2000 (8:00pm), I dont think they ae going to get cancelled anytime soon. If they get moved to Monday, then you know they are on the way out.
Just wait until the feature-length one, then it's all over.

Yea, but jeez, how long can you stretch out a show that's already had 18 seasons.

Lisa wins because Homer acted like an ape over a bottle of beer??? PLEASE! They are not even trying anymore, I won't even watch anything past 2000 anymore...and even then Id rather not!
It's heyday was in the nineties. Mid nineties to be more exact. Even now, I watch those old episodes and every scene has me laughing at something. Now, I agree. The new episodes are like... Plain, or just... Souless almost.

It's like any program/comic where the characters don't age or develop. There's only so much you can wring from them before it goes stale.
For me the nadir hit the episode where Skinner was found out to be an impersonator. Not only ruining all the previous episodes showing what an uptight loser he is, but really putting the boot in at the end by everyone 'forgetting' about it.
It's why I gave up reading Spiderman comics in the 80's. That guy's been an angst-filled teenager for 40 years now. There's only so many times you can see him hurridly beat up some bad guys cause he's late to having afternoon tea with his Aunt May, while at the same time brooding over whether Mary Jane really does like him and will go out on a date.
It's what I admire the classic British comedy for: They knew when to stop. Think 'Fawlty Towers' would still be viewed as such class if it had run for 10 seasons instead of 2? I don't.

"The Island" was the last good episode, being as it was the literal "jumping of the shark" episode. The moment where everything about the original show was totally disregarded. It was a hilarious episode, but it also marked the departure from the Simpsons' previous attempts at good storytelling. Now it's all just "The Homer Does Wacky Stuff Show" and I'm getting really sick of it.

Death will probably be swift after the Simpsons movie, which I can assure you will fail misserably.

The Simpsons won't end unless a large amount of people stop watching them. The actual quality of the show doesn't matter, the quantity of the audience does.
Look at Firefly. Fox screwed it up, and it didn't make it through the first season. Does that mean it's not an awesome show? No! It means that Fox should be beaten with an angry marshmallow!
Matt Groening is already planning ahead methinks.
2007 - The Simpsons miovie is being released making me think no more new Simpsons.

In short, they started copying Family Guy. Which is funny, because they always seem to say that Family Guy is plagiarism.
Don't even get me started on South Park... Sure, it's funny, but it's so far up its own ass that it may never be able to pull itself out. Matt and Trey think they're so much better than every other show in the genre that it's really embarrassing, even for people such as myself who like the show.
And the writing isn't all that great, either. All they do nowadays is take Pop Culture and current events and spin them way out of proportion. It's very formulaic. And while Family Guy may be based on random humor, at least the episodes differ in structure, much unlike South Park.
