How many words per mintue can you type? How did you learn to type as fast as you did? I can type 41 wpm, but I know I can type faster if I can stop this hunt and peck thing. 41 is rather fast for someone who types like I do.:D

I do the pecking thing, but I can do it really really fast. More than 70 words a minute, definately.

It comes from spending waaaaaaaaaay too much time on the internet.

The highest I got with that test was 120 WPM... But it was averaging around 90 WPM, the 120 was a particularly easy quote.

before I took a class, I typed 43 words a minute... then they minused all the mistakes, and that brought me down to... 5 words... :p

after a semester tho, I averaged 56 words. My typing teacher was so proud!

On various internet based tests, I usually score around 70-80ish words per minute. However, the problems with these tests is that they make one focus on getting a particular score, which in turn causes one to conciously focus on the task at hand, thus reducing speed and making more errors. If I'm just mindlessly typing, however, the skill becomes more automatic and I could probably type faster. This is why typing classes, after all, are so mindlessly boring. Hypnotic trance created via mindless repetition ("a...s...d...f...space <brief pause> j...k...l...;...return <brief pause>; rinse and repeat about a gazillion times) leads to faster typing. :D

the test is inaccurate. it counts the keystrokes, so I can easily hit 100+ but true typing tests remove all words that are mistyped.

oh and I hit 81 wpm on that test with one mistake.

I've gotten 74, 89, and 93.
And yeah it's a crappy test.

About 80, according to the test.

Even faster when I know what I'm writing, instead of having to copy from a screen.

You should just type mindlessly for a minute and count the number of words you get.

According to that test between 85 and 100. I've been piddling around on the Internet since 1996, and played PvP MUDs for about 5 years, though.

I averaged 77 WPM, and I'm lying on the floor, elbows on the carpet and all. I'm also tired and very hungry. :p

I think I got 36 last time I took the test.

I've been rated at 94wpm by a job agency I was with back in the day, though I rarely reach anything like that speed under normal circumstances. Apart from anything else, it makes your fingers hurt...

Apparantly around 47 to 49 wpm. Which, it seems, is too slow for me to be able to do transcriptions without it taking way too fucking long. And that's making a ton of mistakes. Only catch about half of them.

Only slightly faster that old people fu*k.

where do i take a typing test? i assume there must be internet ones. is there like an official standard or something for these tests?

31 wpm the first time and 43 the second.

My typing speed is around/above 40. Not too bad I suppose, not good though. I guess I will have to sleep uneasily tonight knowing that I am not a good typist....:( Who am I kidding? I honestly don't give a damn!:D

I put 60 before I took the test, as a conservative estimate. I got 74, and that's likely from correcting errors.

I was going to say just that. Doesn't surprise me because geniuses think alike, and you and me are geniuses.

Anyway, without being creative I got 67 wpm. Could do better, but I'm feeling sleepy. And my contacts are sliding up my eye into my skull.

never done a proper test but managed to type the following (76 words) in one minute exactly:

I don’t know how many words I can type in a minute – shall we find out? I am timing this as I type to try and find this valuable variable. It will be an interesting test. I am also listening to jimi Hendrix which is awesome and I love the dude. My bath is running as I am all smelly and I just found the best way to start off a Sunday morning!! Haha its great! ;)

I averaged about 80 on that test.

But i'm going to vote 70 because it makes me feel special.
