Doing some random looking up stuff on the internet and I came across this.

Talk about nasty stuff. Like hornet spray for humans. Thankfully we've never had to use it.....
__
What is VX?

VX is the deadliest nerve agent ever created. Known by its U.S. Army code name, it is a clear, colorless liquid with the consistency of motor oil. A fraction of a drop of VX, absorbed through the skin, can fatally disrupt the nervous system. Although a cocktail of drugs can serve as an antidote, VX acts so quickly that victims would have to be injected with the antidote almost immediately to have a chance at survival. VX is the only significant nerve agent created since World War II.

They're shipping all of it to New Jersey for disposal. Supposedly living here in NJ gives us a high tolerance for any poison including chemical weapons.
Eh-oh

Wonderful stuff, eh? The frightening thing is, some of the crud they were fiddling with in the Bioweapons Development projects in the 1960s makes VX look like Pepper Spray!

I have developed a resistance to chemical and biological warfare. I call it: Navy Food. :)

And here I was thinking that VX was as well known as sarin and anthrax.

Botulism? Or was it ebola?

It freaks me out....I can deal with huge amounts of blood and gore, fine. I can keep my lunch down, but tell me some random acres out there are hosed off with ANYTHING Bio I won't go near it. I've seen a TON of pics in class of victims of Bio/Chem weapons. NASTY stuff.

VX and Sarin are in the same class of weapons. Organophosphate cholinestrase inhibitors, but they're different chemicals. Anthrax is a bacteria that normally affects grazing animals, but if inhaled, injested or injected under the skin can cause disease in humans.

Botulinum Toxin is technically a Chemical weapon - it's just made biologically.

I was thinking more along the lines of the Trans-Anthrax and C4-B bacteria. 99.9% fatality rates, guaranteed incapacity within seven minutes of exposure, NO KNOWN TREATMENT OR CURE. And especially witnh the Anthrax, hangs around for years...

You Navy guys have it lucky compared to Marines and Army. The Navy has the best food out of any group, especially Submariners.

Yes, thank you, I'm well aware of that. I sat through NBC classes too.

My comment was that I thought that VX was as well known to the general public as sarin and anthrax, which are two other well known NBC weapons. Apparently I was wrong, as DM (who is, as I'm sure you know, a big military buff) had never heard of it.

You should check out Air Force food. We went on R&R to Qatar for 4 days when I was in Iraq in '03, and the chow at the AFB we were on was amazing. There were a couple of restaurants on post, but we always went to the D-Fac.
