What to expect

Is anyone here from Monaco? I'm taking the train (why i couldn't fly, I don't know) to Monaco - to see my (Luxembourgish) sister Leonie and her (Monegasque) husband Francois (thought that was a French name).
What on earth should I expect to find in Monaco? What are the Monegaasque's like?

Heavens, all I know about Monaco is from James Bond movies and novels, and I think that Hitchcock / Cary Grant one, To Catch A Thief. Going by that, everyone dresses formally and lives in casinos. :D

Oh, and the town was founded by some Greeks a long time ago and was called "Monoecus" or something like that.

I imagine your average Monagasque is not much different than your average southern Frenchman, except perhaps for a certain smugness about not having to pay French taxes. Oh, and they all adore the late Princess Grace. It's supposed to be a beautiful area, so just have fun!

they all have massive motor yachts, they always wear evening dress at any time of day, they always wear sunglasses, they all drive either ferraris, aston martins or mini cooper S's, and they're probably all swingers.

Sounds like a hell of a place! And it's on the Mediterranean, too!

Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monaco) has a nice article. From the way the principality is designated in the local speech, looks like they speak Provencal rather than northern French, so you might find that an interesting experience.

Since we've been ever so helpful, Toremal (Maria), what should we expect when we visit Luxembourg? Except the Spanish Inquisition, of course, because no one expects the Spanish Inquisition! :p

Tell me about it. My sister was always like 'Princess Grace this, Princes Grace that' 'ooh, isn't hse galm..' 'Oh, she's so pretty - I wish I was like that' or my mother 'That girl is an inspiration to us all'. No wonder she married a Monegasque.
Thanks anyway - perhaps someone would like to contribute some expensive cars, dresses etc?:p
As to Luxembourg, all you can expect is a dreary city full of boring people, and other than that, an also boring country with a rural way of life. Don't bother going, to be quite honest.

I imagine your average Monagasque is not much different than your average southern Frenchman, except perhaps for a certain smugness about not having to pay French taxes

Try paying our taxes - maybe that's another reason to marry that Monegasque - we might as well be taxed for breathing here.
*Moves out to some exotic sunny country* - She wishes.

Anyway, thanks - I'm sure I'll have a nice time in Monaco
