Dude, I just think its dumb to celebrate a sexuality...something that you and I both claim is something you are just born with. Its like going to celebrate that your White...or that your tall...ect. It just seems dumb thats all. I'm not gonna oppose it, I honestly dont care...Its just like a...meh, kinda thing to me.

And numero dos in the convo said that half naked people running around dancing dont represent him, I dont think thats "self hating".

"Pride" isn't about saying, "Woohoo, I'm so proud that I was born with this sexual orientation!" It's about saying, "I am proud that, in a world where so many people are so determined to make me feel like shit for being gay, I refuse to feel like shit."

It's like how "black pride" isn't about being proud that you were born with a higher concentration of dermal melanin. It's about rejecting the shame that so many people try to make you feel because you are black.

Pride is also about taking some well-earned pride in your accomplishments. For a lot of people, simply being homosexual is something that can be brutally difficult, because of all the bullshit they have to put up with each and every day. If you can endure that and still be a strong, happy, caring person, then you bloody well deserve to feel some pride once in a while. If you can manage to build a happy and loving relationship with another human being despite the fact that there are people who dedicate their whole lives to hating you and your relationship, then I think you deserve to pat yourself on the back every so often.

I was under the impression that Sweden was a sexually tolerant nation and gays dont have these types of problems there.

Anyway, I do understand what you are saying, but I still disagree with it....I just think its something that you keep to yourself, and just ...go on with your life.

There is active racism on part of the blacks now, and it isn't just vindictive sentiments of aggrievement (which isn't justifiable if you claim you want to end racism anyway). But you are correct in that it is not analogous for the time being.

Yeah, I'll agree that it's not exactly the same thing, at least not for the time being, perplexing as it may be. In any case, whites are a minority there now. A black middle class is forming. Not that this has left the black elite satisfied...to the contrary, now it itself is vying for power with this new bourgeoisie. I digress though...

Actually, I plan on being open about it. What I'd like to see is the normalisation of it. What most parades achieve is the exact opposite. They are often the reason that stereotypes are formed that discourage successful gay people from outing themselves. Hence, it makes normalisation harder.

Yes, only Christians and Conservatives are mean to gay people. That particular phobia crosses boundaries, and is not applicable to even a majority of the two groups you just mentioned. Just a vocal minority.

Vocal minorities are usually the ones doing the bashing. I don't think your lefties want to be associated with the image most bigots have. If they do practise discrimination, it tends to be of the negative sort, which doesn't bother me really. Still, they would be hypocrites if they said they didn't discriminate at all.

As for Europe, yes, here religion is not so much an issue when it comes to the bigots. They will find other ways to justify their hatred (like asserting that homosexuality is an anathema to collectivist desires).
