Suppose, just suppose, I was in charge of the British Embassy. And suppose, just suppose, someone had contacted the American Embassy because their human rights were being abused, but the american Embassy refused to help. Now suppose, just suppose, that word got around to the international community, including Britain. Could I have the British Embassy intervene, even though it's to help an American Citizen?

Or supposing I was Prime Minister of the UK, does tha fact that the guy is an American Citizen whose Embassy is refusing to help mean I could not get involved?

If, either as person in charge of the British Embassy, or as Prime Minister, I intervened, what would be the consequences?

You're a sovereign nation, you can do whatever the hell you like. It doesn't mean anyone will listen to you, though.

Doesn't the UK have a lot of influence on some countries though?

If so, do you know which countries?

The UK has moderate influence. Like all nations, it only extends as far as money is concerned, however, or where the UK can actually do something about the situation.

it depends on alot of things. that person can request assylum and go through the British process.
how you interviene is also a concern. but as a solverign nation (or a representative of one) you can interviene or ask your Government to do so.

why would you risk war for another nations citizen? (especially when the citizens own country was unwilling to help them)

plus the Queen would click her fingers and dismiss you for endangering HM citizens for the sake of your own personal battle (but lets just say you’re the Queen!)

What kind of intervention are you talking about?

1. It would be unlikely that the risk would be war, I think.

2. I wouldn't risk war unless it was of extreme importance that I intervened.

3. The Queen can not "click her fingers" and dismiss the Prime Minister. Though most of her powers have disappeared, she does still retain certain powers, one of which is two take over power from the Prime Minister - but this is a theoretical right and has not been exercised for some time. If it was exercised, it could only be exercised in an urgent situation, for example if the Prime Minister was going around knifing people.

4. It would maybe be pointless my being the King or queen, and may be a problem to be Queen or King in the first place. For starters, I couldn't be Queen unless I had a sex change. Secondly, as far as I am aware, Kings and Queens become so after a the current Queen or King dies. As far as I am aware, I am not a member of the Royal Family. Thirdly, the Queen has only limited powers, and it may be unlikely that she could actually exercise them. Finally, I'm not sure what reaction another country would have to the Queen getting involved in the above situation I posted - would they just laugh, knowing that she may not have any actual power to do anything unless the Prime Minister agrees?
