Child abuse and a Surprise ending?

What is wrong with people?

First I'm reading along, thinking to myself, what assholes these people are, and imagining if my kids were this abused at the same age and getting all angry and stuff...

And then the surprise ending and I'm like

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A woman and her roommate were charged with starving the woman's 9-year-old daughter, who weighed just 42 pounds when she was found, was locked up all day and was forced to wear a filthy diaper, authorities said.

Melissa Samoraj, 27, and Raymond LaFountain, 31, were arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated child abuse. The girl was so emaciated that her spine and ribcage were showing when state child welfare officials took her June 30, police said.

The girl also had her hands bound behind her, was locked in a bedroom all day and wore a diaper that went unchanged for hours, officials said. She told police it was punishment for bad behavior.

"It's a very disturbing case," police Detective Joe DeLuca said. "You see very few like this."

The girl now lives with her grandparents and has gained about 25 pounds in a month.

"She's doing well now," DeLuca said.

LaFountain's mother reported the girl's appearance after visiting the home, DeLuca said. It's not clear how long the alleged abuse had been going on, police said.

Samoraj and LaFountain were in a Pinellas County jail Thursday, each held on a $50,000 bond. DeLuca said they did not address the allegations when they were arrested Wednesday, and jail records did not indicate if they had lawyers.

LaFountain was originally described by police as Samoraj's live-in boyfriend, but the gender classification at the jail was changed from male to female following a routine strip search, Pinellas sheriff's spokesman Mac McMullen said.

She could have warned them! :p

The child abuse is ridiculous and horrible. Utterly absurd.

The surprise ending didn't make me laugh more than made me make a "what the fuck?" expression. Most probably due to the news that preceded it. I fail to see what that fact had to do with anything, though.

Did you read it, the actual article, or just post based on the thread title? Was this story posted earlier? If so, I'm sorry, if not, try reading the story and then tell me what thread I should have put it in...

How about no thread at all? Seriously, things have gone over the top lately with the threads about harming children, harm coming to children, or people who think their perversions aren't harmful.

Thank you! Maybe Max Barry made a mistake allowing these threads...

It's a news story, I didn't make it up. It's going to be on the news again tomorrow, it's relatively new and it will likely grow. What part of the article are you people mad about most? The fact that it had a surprise ending you didn’t like or the fact that I posted it or some other thing that I'm missing?

Are we not going to read and talk about the new stories as they occur in here because we find them too upsetting? This isn't an opinion piece so much as a  WTF piece.

If you’re having a bad week I don’t see why that gives you license to lash out at me for posting a comment about a new news story. Don’t read the news if it upsets you so, but it wont’ make it go away and the rest of us might want to talk about it.

We're just sick of all of the Child Abuse/Pedo threads that've been going on in here, it seems like since Max Barry gave the OK for these threads, people been posting them like crazy.
