Brazilian Military Takes Stray Penguns back Home (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/5233312.stm)

Well, that's awful nice of those Brazilians, don't you think? I mean, those poor penguins, suffering in the Brazilian heat. :(

See, this is why countries should be increasing their military spending. You never know when you might need to save a load of lost penguins *nods*

AS this was the highest risk mission that our armed forces have undertaken in quite a while (Penguins can cause considerable damage with their beaks, they can, don't laugh, I'm being serious here) I have to wonder where our tax money allocated to the defence budget goes.

Come back to the UK. Then you'd know and be incredibly annoyed but totally impotent at the same time.

Yeah, I'd even be able to vote again. But is it worth it? Let me think
- sun, beaches, brazilian babes, capirinha, Lula -

compared to

- fog, shingles, british feminists, tea, Blair.

No I think I'll stay here thanks.

(I know that you are in the middle of a heatwave at the moment, but that is the exception that proves the rule.)

Dude, I live in Manchester. I've recently heard conversations that started with, "What is this strange round yellow thing that brings us light and heat?"

Yay! Human beings do something decent for once :)

Poor penguins. I hope they have a safe journey home!

Penguin Displacement Recovery

To be fair, the mission to return the penguins to the Antarctic was delayed a few days, as the people and equipment were in the Med shipping Brazilians (and Canadians for some reason) out of Lebanon. We know this because we had an environmental group complaining that the Brazilian armed forces were not doing what they should be, and helping the stranded avians - they were helping stranded homo sapiens instead. :headbang:

To be fair, penguins cause less trouble than homo sapiens

come, come now. Just imagine Bush's approval rating if he started funding this! It'd sure be a better incentive for me to turn on the news.

(Then again, all the bickering in congress about which penquins to save, and which penquins are terrorists...and then the costs of rebuilding their home on Antarctica, and trying to turn it into a democracy with seals attacking every now and then...on second thought, bad idea.)

Penquin A: Dude, dude....check this out. They put me in this big metal thing, and, and they brought me actually OFF the ground, and, and then I looked down, and I could see the top of the water!

Penquin B: No way, dude, that's like, impossible!

Penquin A: No, seriously! And I could see our WHOLE family, I mean the extended part too!

Penquin B: Dude, stop dopping.
