Okay, so since it's the begining of August I have started planning out September and realized that I have whole chunks of space empty that we could do a meetup.

It's mostly the south/central/midwest/weird area....what's that? the great plains or something?

Anywho, people from

Texas
Oklahoma
Missouri
Kansas
Colorado
Arkansas
ect

who wants to meet up? Being enitirely selfish and since I am trying to set the whole thing up, I offer up my city Oklahoma City, to be 'the spot' since it's just about in the middle of everyone.

I figure we meet up on a Saturday, hang out in Bricktown, eat lunch, go to the nearby cool sight seeing places, and then split up and meet back for dinner and stuff at the brewery.......

who's in?

oh, and what Saturday?

and any other helpful suggestions?

The list!

I'm hiding in the one city in Texas that doesn't suck. You're not going to guess it either because no one does. :p

OC though? That's a good 8 hour drive. And I'm kinda young. And I don't have my car. And...

Denver! Denver is really the only place I can meet up anywhere. I can't exactly go much further than that. Up to you guys, though.

How far is OKC from Fort worth/Dallas?

probably not, considering my work schedule....

As for the meet... Can't do it. I don't have the time, and I definitely don't have the money to spare.

Austin.

The answer to the one Texan city that doesn't suck is Austin. (Actually before anybody gets upset, there are fun things to do in most Texan cities ... Austin just gets my vote as the *most* fun city in Texas. I say this as a former Houstonian.)

It's called the Southern Plains region or the South Central US. :) With the exception of parts of Missouri, none of those states are in the midwest.

I pass through OKC a few times a month on average, but I'm off work house-sitting from next week until Sept. 21.. :( Would've liked to participate, though.

probably not, considering my work schedule....

About three hours. It's just over 2.5 from me (Sherman area). If you don't want to drive it, I think Amtrak runs daily service between Ft Worth and OKC.

If you take Amtrak it will be over 4 hours and you'd have to leave Fort Worth at about 5 in the afternoon.

I totally want to meet Smunkee, except I live in Northern California and, I can only assume, I turn to dust if I leave.

okay, so other than pure selfishness, I did choose OKC because it is in the middle of the "south central US" or whatever, as proven by this map.

As far as how far Dallas is, I can make the drive in about 2 hours, if I don't get stuck on the god-awful highway into the city. In highschool we used to leave at 9am hit the Jack-in-the box for lunch and be back before 2p, it's not a big deal.

I am sure Austin is cool, and all, but it's really far from me, not to mention anyone coming from KS, MO, CO, ect.

anything else?

I will drive to the Dallas area, if someone in Dallas wants to plan the whole thing, but I can't plan it unless we are doing it in my city.

Sweet Zombie Jesus, NO! Dallas is the most horrible city on the face of the planet. I'd rather go to Baghdad at this point. Fort Worth is more acceptable.

OKC is fine with me. It's a bit of a drive for me, sure, but it's been a while since I've been there.

We should also do this when it's not 120 degrees in the shade. :p

you know I thought that Dallas = Hell on earth, but I didn't know how much it was my Texas bias.... and how much was true.

yeah, I was thinking third weekend n September, it should be around the 70's for a high around then.

Out of the states availble, the best avialble city base on fun things to do would be San Antonio, but given it's distance from most of the states, that makes it unfavorable, same with Corpus. The logical city then would be Dallas, but with alll it's construction, you'd have an easier time getting into heaven right now. Being that those are really the only cities within traveling distance, I guess I'm out.

where are you that Dallas is within traveling distance but OKC is not?

Oklahoma City has tons to do, and is comparable with San Antonio and Dallas, only having the bonus that we are not in Texas.

Pick Austin! Pick Austin! It's SOOO much better than every other city in Texas and the surrounding states.

Corpus Christi has a better climate. More wind. It has a bayfront, complete with a seawall. It has dolphins. Lots of dolphins. It has very nice people from all over the country. And it has Port Aransas, one of the best fishing towns on the Gulf Coast.

Austin technically has more stuff to do, sure, but Corpus Christi's nicer.

You're joking right? Do you have any idea how polluted the sea is? There's a good reason it's the "Sparkling City by the Sea" And it's not because it's nice and clean.

Also, it might get hit by a hurricane.

Keep Austin Wierd! Support Local Businesses! Woot!!

Corpus Chrisi and Austin are still too far for people from KS, MO, ect. to drive.
