People of USA, this post it dedicated to you. Not because I like you (I don't), or because I want to do you a favour (I don't). But because like it or not (I don't), the fate of the world is in your hands.
Right now you are in the middle of a coup d'etat of your country. Over the past few years you have seen the erosion of your freedoms, flagrant public scaremongering, the hijacking of Christianity and conservatism to buy loyalty, 'signing statements' exempting the executive from the laws of the people (Of which 800+ have been signed in the present presidency compared to 600 in the entire history of the US). The government shamelessly lies to it's citizens, evades accountability, and continues to lie. The signs are clear. Don't think that this will end with Bush. He is nothing more than a puppet to a cabal of much more sinister and powerful men.
A lot of USAmericans won't entertain the thought of such a thing happening in USA. Opression is something that happens to foriegners, not in USA. The only reason the US has been free in the past is because the people were prepare to stand up and fight for their liberties. If you think the government is going to take care of it for you, then the USA is doomed.
America is going through some uncomfortable growing pains which are sometimes embarrassing, sometimes disgusting, and always unexpected. At the end of it all you will be able to look back at what was actually a beautiful period of wonder and innocence compared to your present reality of living in a facist state. It is like superman (who is destined to destroy earth). Only the purest, most shining example of good is capable of the ultimate evil and betrayal. Think of Satan (Once second in command in heaven).
Personally, I couldn't really give two pots about the fate of the American people. However, USA has well over 90% of the worlds nukes. Should the USA be seized by facism, then the Facist state that was once the USA will have over 90% of the world's nuke arsenal. That is a concern to the world, and everyone in it.
You need to stand up and defend your rights. Let those who would attempt to cajole you into surrendering your freedoms know that you wont have any of it. It doesn't matter if you are a 'liberal', 'conservative', 'libertarian', 'christian', 'muslim', 'Democrat', or a 'Republican'. None of these terms mean anything in a society without the freedom to express these convictions. What you have in you government isn't a resurgence of neo-conservatism, it is a cancer of neo-facism taking the guise of the most popular ideaologies in USA (Christianity and conservatism).
