Hey its August and for many sports fans this side of the pond that means forgetting about baseball and MLS:gundge:. Its time for College Football!!:D (Or the NFL)
This thread is not limited to the poll topic but to discussing anything and everything about football! The great Amreican Football thread.

I voted Auburn because of a friend whose dad went there. And you left off the "I like Waffles" option.

Purdue Boilermaker!!!

Nah, we actually suck. I went to every home game last year and will do so again this year. We are the trash of the Big 10. Look to Meechigan to win it all.

I will say that Texas might very well repeat. Also, let us look to Penn State who very well could punch a ticket if they stay on the course they are now after a few bad years. Pittsburgh could make a run but I am giving them an outside chance. University of Southern California could also make it back.

The field is wide open and there is no way to tell just how it is going to fall. I will have a more definite pick when the season actually gets started.

I laughed till I almost cried when I saw one of the poll choices.

*Snort* Cal?!?!?!?

If California wins the BCS championship I will forswear rooting for Stanford in any way until February of 2012, I will throw away my F.U.C.L.A button and I will let the first Cal graduate I see on this site choose any philosophical or political treatise by any Cal professor which I will then read and discuss without negative comment and also say 10 true nice things about the pinko's academic work. I will even pretend to like it and be enlightened by it. Even if it is written by an ex dean or the coach of the bears football team. Of course this can never happen. It is the Cal Berkely Bears after all.

I'd really like for Penn State to win. They have a damn good chance, too. But I really think that Notre Dame has the best shot... I mean, they had USC in that game. Plus, they're supposed to be even better this year. And come on, Texas' only real threat to USC was Vince Young...

Pitt, eh? I love 'em (I have two authentic Dan Marino Panthers jerseys, home and away, with the home jersey in Navy Blue)... But their OL is pretty shoddy. If they can get their act together and protect Palko and friends, they have a damn good distant shot at the National Championship.

Do not get me started on Tyler Palko. I think he is overrated for the most part. But I do agree with what you say aout Pittsburgh. Now if they can only beat West Virginia....

He's no Dan Marino, but he's just a tier below him. Remember how good he was the year before last? Rememer the Notre Dame and West Virginia games? He actually had an OL then... :p

Yea he did but under pressure, he stinks to high heaven. Of course..I am just a tad biased since he went to West Allegheny High School.

Some of my friends are extremely excited about changes to Michigan's coaching staff, but I'm afraid that the Tigers are sapping all of the sports luck in the state.

Texas dominating and incredible season last year relied heavily on one man, that man is gone this year. Texas will be a very good team this year but I think theyve lost too much to repeat. The best thing that could have happened for Texas has happened though. Oklahoma shot itself in the foot and dismissed two players today including their (former) starting QB.

I couldnt agree with you more about Penn State and USC both having legitimate shots at a Championship season. Penn State has maybe the second toughest schedule after Notre Dame though so if they win it all they definitely deserve it. USC too for that matter.
I'll add to my list of legit teams Auburn, Florida State and Oklahoma if their backup QB works out for them.

2 strong teams that might be surprise Cinderella teams during the bowls are Oregon and Florida if nobody has an undefeated season. Same goes for West Virginia but not on the strength of the team as much as the weakness of their schedule.

West Virginia is going to have a tough year I imagine. Especially when they face off against Pittsburgh. Hopefully, Palko does not choke.

If he wasn't I'd be quite confused. The Michigan/Ohio State rivalry has been going on in every sport as long as both universities have had teams. In football both teams regard beating the other team as just as good as winning the national championship. I'm required by state law to jump in and defend Michigan's honor in this regard, but I haven't been able to follow college football much the last few years, so I'm sure a jury would take that into consideration and not have me hanged.

Fun useless trivia: Most people think the Toledo War (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toledo_War) was the root cause of this huge sports rivalry.

You actually have a state law that requires you to jump to Michigan's defense against Ohio State? I hope that was actually sarcasm. What about your rivalry with Michigan State?

Yes that was sarcasm. The rivalry with Michigan State is quite strong as well (I actually come from a very strongly State area), but not nearly as strong as the Ohio State rivalry. Michigan has always been very snobbish and smug when dealing with State because State used to be called "Michigan Agricultural College". While the Michigan/Michigan State rivalry is quite strong the Michigan/Ohio State rivalry is much stronger. Winning the championship is nice, but winning against Ohio State is at least as important.
