Constantly hearing "you have no proof that they work together" or "al-Qaeda is Sunni and Hezbollah is Shia, and they would never work together".

Think again.

BERLIN (Reuters) - Iran has freed a son of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden from house arrest, a German newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Die Welt said the Iranian Revolutionary Guard released Saad bin Laden on July 28 with the aim of sending him to the Syria-Lebanon border. It linked the reported move to the outbreak of war between Israel and Lebanese-based Hizbollah.

"From the Lebanese border, he has the task of building Islamist terror cells and preparing them to fight together with Hizbollah," Die Welt said, quoting intelligence information.

Putting aside petty differences to reach a common goal.

Won't make too big a difference, I don't think.

where does it say they work together?
It says that Iran released a bin laden boy to go fight along the lebanon-syria border against Israel.
Our general view is Iran certainly does have a few al Qaeda-related figures ... The general perception is Iran keeps these people as a bargaining chip," said a European counter-terrorism official when asked about the Die Welt report.

He said Shia Muslim Iran was not sympathetic to members of Sunni-dominated al Qaeda but "they protect them as long as they think they can make use of them".

You must have forgot that part. I guess selective reading does prove one's point at times.

If they were really enemies as we constantly hear, why would they release him?

It's pretty clear that all their differences are really a smoke screen, and they're cynical enough to overlook a Sunni-Shia difference.

Which is proven by the part you just quoted.

Well, its one less fighter that they'd have to send, and why not send a sunni? If that sunni dies, then its one less sunni that the Shiite has to put up with.

I don't think there will be much thought upon about this, simply because its not like there is some huge bond that will bring them together now. Wow, they let a sunni prisoner go, and they are friends now? What if Iran let a jewish prisoner go? would you say they are really friends with the Israelis and were plotting bind together to take out the US or something? come on, get that brain of yours up and running :p

You're right there. It's not like you need an organised group effort to stir the Lebanese into extremist anti-Israeli sentiment right now.

I once heard a theory that says that all the muslim countries will unite and become one due to the constan USA/Israeli attacks... It's hard, but it seems possible after seeing millions of people from Morocco to Indonesia blaming Israel, and when they all are warned that being separated (Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan) they are weaker...

And we would be talking about a newer China, but with oil...

So? Now you must start a crusade of your own against Islam? Thats not right. Don't let a handful of people from a group decide whether or not you are a good person towards other people.

The only one making the association between al-qaeda/hezbollah and all of islam, in this thread, is you.

Not the thread, like you are saying in the above quote, but you. Why is that?
