This just made me laugh! Must be why the Met is so good - using God to catch the crooks! Methinks they're either being lazy or insane.

Either that or God is now in control of the met! ;)
Still at least it stops them from shooting innocents for a bit!!!!!
Dear Lord forget about world hunger and peace but please help us solve the vandalism problem.
Whatever they want to elieve they can

Well I'm divided. On the one hand, praying to god to help you catch vandals is just silly. On the other hand, encouraging the Christian community (which is the majority in London, yes?) to keep an eye open for criminal activity seems a fairly good thought.

I would say that depends on which bit of London you are in there are large Muslim areas. I would say the majority religion in England, but London I'm not so sure

Well, presumably it's the majority religion in the areas they're carrying out this program in. Wouldn't make much sense to try and organize something with Christian churches in largely Muslim areas.

Well, Mary was old enough to be married... Heh.
Though when you consider that God's several billion years older than anything else...

Well I re-read the article and even though it mentions London it's actually talking about Lincolnshire so:
a) yes it would be Christian so you're right
and
b) I'm an ass for laughing without reading first.
....It's still funny though!!!!!!!!! :p

Nope. An Angel told Mary about giving birth before it happened. She never objected, so it doesn't make God a perv, and Mary was a WOMAN, so it doesn't make God a pedo either.

It's not quite the same. For one, it's a peaceful idea rather than going around bombing and locking up people who are muslim (did anyone hear one of Bush's addresses where he claimed that the people locked up in Gitmo (you know, the people who have never had a trial, and who there has not been a shred of evidence presented to the public about them) were all terrorists? He needs to be the subject of a coup, and quickly. After all, he did cheat to win the election. And to all the patriots: YES, HE DID. HE CHEATED. DEAL WITH IT.
And for two... to everyone who doesn't believe in the power of prayer, forget about thhat for a moment. Asking people to help in dealing with crime is a good idea. It's like a massive Neighbourhood Watch scheme, with lots of Christians.

All true.
The police rely heavily on the public, that's why they shoot themselves in the foot when they prosecute people for stupid things like eating an apple while driving.
As for the election cheating bit, the phrase "it's who you know, not what you know" springs to mind! :)

The eating an apple while driving could actually be perceived as dangerous and stupid. You are, after all, supposed to keep both hands on the wheel as much as possible. If you're speeding along in a 50mph zone, you deserve to be prosecuted for only using one hand.

........but really though? C'mon in the grand scheme of things it's v.petty. Prosecuting people for little things like eating while driving is criminalizing the non-criminal and thus, generating hatred and an air of non-compliance towards the police.
You can't get prosecuted for changing gear or playing with your radio and they take a hand off the wheel. Unless the driver's actions are dangerous then it shouldn't be a problem.

1. It's not the eating the apple the cop had the problem with. It's the fact that the driver was using one hand, and as an apple takes a while to eat, this would/could have been for an extended period of time, which is very dangerous on high-speed roads.
2. Changing the gear is necessary, and takes a few seconds. Playing with the radio is not necessary, and could possibly actually get you prosecuted, but is unlikely to as it just takes a few seconds (unless of course you're in a high-speed area and fiddling about with a few cassette tapes).
Unless the driver's actions are dangerous then it shouldn't be a problem.
"Unless the driver's actions are dangerous" - exactly. I don't know what happened in the case referred to, but if the driver was doing something that resulted in using only one hand on the wheel for an extended period of time in a high-speed area, then it was dangerous. Creating headlines that focus on the apple don't alter that fact.

I am more concerned about this 'power of prayer' stuff...
Are we going to see our police force turn into a religious police organisation at some point in the future?

Or are we just seeing the religious communities becoming involved in civil protection and stuff? Lord knows it's about time we started doing something along these lines.

no...you miss my point...I think its great that communities get together to look after each other....however to use 'the power of prayer' to help solve crimes...that stretches things a bit too much for me....and it sends a message that the police force is not secular....
