There's a hole in the sky, through which things can fly...
Valve, the makers of the Half-Life series, are coming out with an incredible new game: PORTAL
Mindbending, dimension-defying, physics-twisting fun. There's no other way to describe it. Just check out the Quicktime trailer here (http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=11883&type=mov&pl=game). (YouTube version here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpdCi5XpCsE)).

Holy shit that looks amazing
How long have you worked for Valve?
I see something cool, so I share it. Think whatever you want.
Although, looking back, my first post did seem a little commercial-y...

Oh, relax you! :p
Either way, "Portal" looks absolutely badass. It adds a whole new dimention to gaming.
...It must have been a total BITCH to code...
I am the only one, who despite my initial interest in the eye-candy factor of a game, simply can't focus long enough to actually play it?

Ah yes...the "Duy!" Factor...Must be careful to avoid that.

It didn't look all that exciting to me. Nicely done environmental effects, beyond that. Pfui.

It's ultimately just another first person shooter, a clever one, but still just a first person shooter, the kind I might watch someone play for a little bit, maybe try for a little bit, but in the end, it's still a first person shooter, which isn't my bag.

That's mine. I like "The Conquerors" upgrade for "Age of Empires II," although I have to admit that I would love to find a new stategy game that had more options.

Try Victoria (from Paradox Entertainment). Of course it is too realistic for some. Expansion pack is due this month...

Strategy's not my favourite genre, but StarCraft (http://www.blizzard.com/starcraft/) is a popular game, despite how old it is now.

That game is the devil. I've had it forever and I'm still rubbish at it.

It's been ages since I played StarCraft. I wasn't particularly impressed with it back then, but I rather suspect it's gone through several transformations and is better now, yes? :)

The full title is "Victoria: The Empire Under The Sun" (although you can play with all nations in 19th century Earth, not just UK), you can google it for reviews.

Dunno about that. There's no sequels and still only the one expansion pack. I've never played Age of Empires II, so I don't know how much better it is than the first AoE (which I consider inferior to StarCraft). If you're not put off by the fantasy genre, there's Warcraft III (don't expect realism). It's basically StarCraft + fantasy - sci-fi + more features + better graphics.

It's my fav game. And the best thing was playing Sweden, then uniting Scandinavia and then being #1.

I liked the expansion pack better than the game itself, which was a classic (it's the only game whose CD has been to space. (via NASA)).
I'm waiting for StarCraft 2 for years now. Stupid Blizzard. :mp5:

Racing, mostly. Some airplane games, the older the better usually. I loved Warbirds on the Atari Lynx. I know that both of those share some similarity with the first person shooter, especially airplane games because it really is just shooter that takes place in three diminsions, but I just can't get into first person shooters. Larger strategy games can start to get accounty for me, I like small squad strategy things, I loved Gladius. I don't know, out of racing it's kind of a grab bag, but for the most part RPG and FPS are kind of at the bottom of the list.

Considering Brood War was released in 1998, some people have been waiting 8 years.

Thanks. I'm looking at it now. Kind of intriguing. :)

4th quarter 2006, it looks like. It should come bundled with Half-Life 2: Episode 2 for the PC, and also be available on Xbox 360 and other next-gen consoles.
