I have an eye infection of some sort, so my doctor gave me some eyedrops that should clear that up. I wanted to just have him amputate the eyeball and give me a pirate patch, but noooooooo...

Anyways, now I'm supposed to force my eyes open, hold this little plastic thingy above my face, and squeeze little drops of stuff into my eyeballs. Merely thinking about it is scaring the pants off me.

So how do you feel about eyedrops? Have any problems with them? Are you scared of them like me? Am I a giant wussy?

Well... you can either drop some into your eye... or have your eyeball swell up into a disgusting green bulge...

I had 9 eye surgeries before the age of 6, so I got pretty used to eye drops, however things touching my eyes still freaks me out for example I can't wear contacts, the thought of putting them in, or even them being there freaks me out.

as far as the eye drop thing, are they the watery kind or the greasy kind?

the watery kind are harder to do because there is more of a fear of sting, the greasy kind are the kind I prefer, but it depends I guess on what kind of problem you have.

My best advice is to practice first with plain eye drops, so you can get your rhythm down before wasting meds. Lay down try to look at your eyebrows, pull your lower lid down and drop them in there, then close your eyes, and roll them around, keep them closed for like a minute, and then you should be fine. If they are the greasy ones your vision will be fuzzy for a minute or two, it's normal.

DON'T LOOK AT THE DROPPER!! that will freak you out, look up, so far up that you can't see anything.

Good advice, but I don't have any droppers! I just have the one that the pharmacy gave me, and it's full of the stingy watery kind of stuff.

Ooooh, this is good advice! Seriously, thanks - this is good advice. I did one set of drops earlier, and I kept staring at the dropper and freaking myself out. It took like 15 minutes, and I was just freaking out the whole time. I'm definately going to try the look up/pull eyes down/drop low thing later tonight, when I have to do it again. :)

Heh, same here (not the surgery, the contacts part). I tried contacts once and started whimpering yelling "ahhh, getitoffmyeye!" They eye doctor seemed bemused. the thought of drops is not comforting in the least.

not a good first experience. my eyes are slightly watering just thinking of it.

then again, i cant swallow pills. yay, kiddie medicine! (you get more tylenol in liquid form anyway)

I've got some nasty allergies in the spring, and eyedrops help in a big way. So I'm used to 'em. But when I started I was more than a bit recalcitrant with the schedule. I was a bit worried, but now I'm fine. It just takes time.

I used to not even be able to swallow my birth control pills, I got over it practicing with swallowing candies, started with redhots, moved on to M&M's and then peanut M&M's I can swallow any size of pill now with no problem, the big factor is fear, if you can get confident, then you can swallow any size of pill.

The bonus with practicing with candy is that if you just can't get it down, you can eat it and try again......I probably gained 3lbs learning that way though LOL

never needed eye drops but I guess its the same as rinsing your eye with whatever beverage is around to clean it (for funky results be creative)

Seriously, if it weren't for those i drops i have every once in a while, i think i would have scratched my eyes out by now. So yeah, i drops are fine, maybe its just the idea if dropping stuff into your eye, but its really not at all that bad.
