Testing my faith in the Medical Field

My aunt is going to the local u for testing. She is from a very small town <1500 people. She thinks her liver is being poisoned, and the u has even told her they might have to put her on the liver transplant list. Ok, first she was given certain pills to help her with reducing the yellowness in her eyes, which worked for a while. She also has numbness in both her legs and feet. After a car crash with a semi many years ago, she has lost all feeling in her feet and her legs. She sometimes gets cut on glass while walking and she doesn't even know until she sees blood, which may be hours later. Those pills were supposed to flush out her eyes and the doctor said they wouldn't be addicting, and she could take them with pain relievers. She was experiencing back pain so she took the pain relieving pills with the other ones. This caused her to become addicted to the water pills. Now, her feet and legs have swullen up to twice their normal size, she's experiencing stomach pain, and her eyes are bright yellow. She asked her doctor months ago about taking the pills and he said the same thing. She's suing the company because they claim that it's not an addictive drug at all, which she has proven wrong. She is getting a test today from the u, and if they send her home without a lot of advice, I'll be pissed.
Do any of you have some ideas?

Get a good lawyer, try and stay as comfortable as possible.

Definately have a case here.

Is she in any serious imminent danger? I mean, obviously this is uncomfortable, but how likely is it that she'll need a transplant?

I agree with Dodu, get a good lawyer, and find out if there are any class-actions suits out there that you can join.

Of course, the pills could be psychologically addictive rather than physiologically...

It does not "become addictive." There are two components to an addiction, the physical, in which the organism requires the drug to function, and the psychological, in which you think you need the drug to function.

She probably has the second. Tell her to save her time and money.
