This just came over the news. Several Arabic newspapers have called American Secretary of State "that black spinster woman," among other things, and an Arabic cartoonist has shown her with a monkey in her womb.

NOW who's being "racist?"

A search turned up no online sources.

I think the monkey is a reference not to standard Western racial epithets, but rather to the symbolism of GW Bush who does, in fact, resemble a monkey.

Thank you.

I find that website to be utter bullshit. Scrolling down, it takes any radical critique of her to be 'RACIST'. "Drinking the blood of babies?" MUST BE RACIST!

"Murdering Rice go to hell? Umm, err, RACIST!"

As for the image, it could have several meanings:
She is going to give birth to a new Middle East represented by the monkey. Obviously a human cannot give birth to an animal, it would be a monster.

Oh, wait. Maybe they're saying the 'new Middle East' she is 'giving birth' to would 'monstrous' or a big ol' fuckin' nightmare.

Beware the beast man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport or lust or greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. You know what, you are right. It would be well for us all to fall to the lowest common denominator.

It could have been Blair. In that evesdropping video at the G8, he suggested this twice to GWB, who said essentially 'no, we're sending Condy.'
Blair would have had more effect. Not because he's British, but because he's a head of state, rather than a spokeperson. Bush didn't want that, and the charitable reason (which I believed when I heard Condy was going) was that a ceasefire would ensue, and the US wanted credit for it.

Now, it looks worse than that. Rice was sent without Bush's firm proxy for a ceasefire. Consequently, Israel largely ignored her, diminishing her authority in the future. Bush didn't want Blair going, because a ceasefire might have ensued.

Sending Rice to negotiate, without a public call by the US Administration for a ceasefire, only makes her look like a lightweight. Bush, yesterday: "We are supporting democracies in the Middle East." But not by calling for a ceasefire in a vile war between two of them.

The cartoon fifth on the cited page is about right. Condaleeza Rice has been tossed out of a plane with a load of bombs.

(Oh, and to the OP: it's racist. "Blacks are like monkeys" is the first idea which springs to mind. It's a cartoon, sheesh.)

NOW who's being "racist?"

LOL! I think they were refering to the fact that Bush resembles a monkey and well she did almost refer to him as 'my hus,,,the president' so mayb they just are acknowledging it.

Also if she is a black spinster woman how is she pregnant with a monkey?

Oh, quite so.
I recall reading a short book ( almost a pamphlet ) by a radical morrocan feminist, around 1992, commenting inter alia on the Gulf War.

She pointed out that the very fact that *shudder* women *gasp* had entered the Kingdom of Sa'ud in any other capacity than as playthings to be used for the delight of Arab masters ( sorry, farmers who merely plow the fields as Allah orders it, in the Koran ) - was quite sufficient to ensure eternal hatred towards the West.

ok, i have seen the link, finally

actually i find them not racist at all...

its simpler than you see it, Dr Rice has said before that lebanon is in a labour situation, where all the pain is now to get a beautifull future... or so she says...

so they represendted Rice with Bush as her baby, and since almost ALL media around the world has agreed that Bush does look like a chimp, they simply included him as a chimp child, and it meant nothing to black people... Arabs include black too, so i doubt that they would make racist comments, its not acceptable in the Arab world...

plus, we cant compare such cartoons with the Prophets ones, first because he is a Holy figure while rice is just a foreign minister...

second the cartoons of the Prophet were made to irritate Muslims, while these cartoons are made by arabs for arabs and not for americans...

The cartoons of Muhammad were not intended for distribution to the Middle East. They were intended for Danish audiences - it was Muslim clerics living in Denmark who saw the cartoons some months after they were originally published, and sent them to thier colleagues in the Middle East.

I didn't know Arabs were racist against black people.

One of the reasons blacks convert to Islam in the US is cause they think the Arabs see them as equals.

It seems to make more sense that it was a reference to Condi and Bush being lovers and birthing a new militant middle east together (the baby looking like Bush of course).

Besides I think the burden of proof that Arabs are racist against blacks falls on the person making the claim that it is so since by looking at what we generally know about Arabic culture, it seems otherwise.

Someone was saying earlier that they are racist against Jews and consider them the decendants of pigs and monkeys so looking at the cartoon another way perhaps they were actually makign the racist statement agaisnt the jews and Condi birthing a militant Jewish baby because she is in bed with Israel in the figurative sense.

I'm not saying it's impossible that they were making a racist comment about Condi, but I am saying that it is unlikely IMHO.

Arabs (not all Arabs, obviously) are indeed racist towards blacks (the Janjaweed Arab militia of Sudan targetting blacks is partly due to racist reasons also). Plus they sexist towards woman. Condi being a black woman sets them off.

Rich Arabs regularly employ blacks (and Indo-Pakis) for menial labor because they think that menial labor is beneath them. Reason why they still hire immigrant labor and having Arab unemployment at the same time.

One of the reasons blacks convert to Islam in the US is cause they think the Arabs see them as equals.

That is an ideal (Islam preaches equality blah blah blah). Practice != ideals.

It's in the Hadith. Generally accepted as true, constantly used for propaganda purposes.

Like most "holy books", the Koran itself is contradictory within itself, and it cannot be separated from the religious works that followed, which are also contradictory.

Since they go simian over one cartoon and don't go simian over another cartoon... they may not all share the same view, but they all share the same corporate guilt.

It's in the Hadith. Generally accepted as true, constantly used for propaganda purposes.

Like most "holy books", the Koran itself is contradictory within itself, and it cannot be separated from the religious works that followed, which are also contradictory.

fair enough. bloody religious books. can't give a straight answer anymore!!!;)

I don't know if you've ever read The trouble with Islam today,

but the core belief of the AEL ( all other muslims are only good muslims inasfar as they totally obey each and every Arab ), is actually quite widely spread in arab society.

As mentioned previously in this thread, Islam says that the Jews are descended from apes and pigs.

Islam says that or (some) Arabs say that?

So, pretty racist. Pretty obvious, except for those who have it in their heads that Islam can do no wrong.

Arabs not Islam.

There are over a billion Muslims in the world and only around 300 million. Arab != Muslim.

Consider that artists have presented Jesus in a bottle of urine as "art", and that is essentially, to many Christians, a depiction of the Son of God (not some measly prophet) in a derogatory manner.

Oh, where were the riots, the burning of embassies, the calls by Christian leaders around the world to kill the artist and everyone who sponsored the artist?

Mmmm? Nowhere to be found, eh?

Right-thinking secular people have long since put a muzzle on christians and built institutions to prevent this kind of behavior. A muslim of today is a christian of 500 years ago.

I'm not to sure about what this has to do with the Mohammed-Condi comparison, but Christians don't exactly have a history of looking at art favourably (in recent times, I don't really care about dredgin up the middle ages).

Though true, I'm don't know of any death threats issued by Christian leaders or embassies burned because Christians were offended recently. I do know about cinemas getting fire bombed and artists assaulted though, but that paes in comparrison I'm sure.

(And it is "artist" singular, Andres Serrano in particular. It isn't as if all budding artists have had a go at doing a "Piss Christ")

Yes, the US is a secular country. But plenty of Christians, eh?

More than enough to change the laws to allow for religious rioting.

Don't see us doing it though. We riot over college football games and NBA championships. Evidently, even the Christians here don't take their religion as seriously as most Muslims.

Then lets put it this way; are you suggesting that no Christians were involved in the rioting over sports games? Do you think that it is much more justifiable to burn buildings and cars and attack other people over the results of a basketball or soccer match, than it is to do so because of a cartoon that attacks your religion?

EDIT: I should say that in IMO both groups are a bunch of idiots for bringing violence and destruction for such trivial matters.

The rioters at games aren't doing it for Christian religious reasons, if that's what you're trying to infer.

The game riots occur on a scale several orders of magnitude less than that of the Muslim rioting over a cartoon. And we arrest the people who riot here.

They don't arrest the rioters there. In some cases, the local government actually encouraged the rioting and especially the burning of embassies.

Gee, the US lost the World Cup (in fact, never had a chance and was quickly ass-kicked out the door), and we didn't burn down the Italian Embassy.

And Christians in the US have never burned an Embassy. Never turned out in the millions to riot over depictions of God.

And you're trying to say there's a goalpost in baseball.

Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartoon_controversy)

The Refusal of the Prime Minister to meet with a group of Imams who played it by the books and asked for the cartoons to be removed quietly, along with the apparent refusal of the Danish police to investigate as a violation of the Blasphemy Laws resulted in them taking it to the Middle East, where a few creative firebrands added more incendiary cartoons that were never published in Denmark along with a photo from a French Pig Festival that was relabeled as a profane remark about Muhammad and showed it to the Muslim world.

Hence the riots and protests that everyone here assumed happened on Day One.

No I'm not suggesting that... I'm suggesting that Christians are not above rioting and burning buildings over idiotic trivial matters such as a basketball game. That puts them on the same level as the Muslims that rioted and burned shit over a cartoon. And whats worse is that USIans burned cars homes, and businesses and attacked people that weren't even affiliated with these games.

Actually, you're making a fundamental mistake.

I don't hate Muslims. I believe the religion itself needs to be either seriously reformed or removed. And most of its more radical believers need to be put in re-education camps for a decade or so.

Has nothing to do with hate or racism.
