god i fucking love this show :D

i didn't watch it first-time round on TV (wish i had!) but saw the occasional ep of series 4 round glitziness' place... then got series 1 on dvd, and have been absolutely, totally, madly in-love with the show ever since :p

so... here's a general thread for talking about the show. i'll start by just asking who else likes it? and also... am i right in thinking jack bauer is the most kickass dude ever? ;)

I've seen a few episodes and it was too USian. The acceptance and trivialisation of torture throughout the show was annoying.

Not to mention that Kiefer Sutherland sucks. Nothing else can be said for someone who peaked in "The Lost Boys."

My boss likes it, but she never watches it first-run on TV. She'd rather wait for the DVD because then she doesn't have to wait a whole week to see what happens next.

I've never been to engrossed by it.

 nevar!! :(

though i agree it is a very americanised show. doesn't bother me much though.
what does bother me is (in what i saw of series 4 at least) was their constant referral to the enemy agents as generic "terrorists"... as in 'the terrorists are coming to get us', 'the terrorists have been spotted at the mall' or whatever. its like a 3-year-old calling them "bad guys" - the least they could have done was come up with a half credible terrorist cell name or something (like in True Lies with the Crimson Jihad - its cheesy but it works, and its a whole ton better than constantly referring to them as generic "the terrorists")

other than that i do love the show :p

it actually helps watching it on DVD i think. it really lets you get inside the show and be more engrossed by it, considering its all (near enough) real time.
following someone in that kind of depth really allows you to build up a more intimate understanding of whats going on (and allows the writers to come up with pretty complex plots :p) as well as getting emotionally attached and sympathetic with the characters. i mean, that's the general style of the show, but watching the eps back-to-back on dvd like this makes it even better :P

A couple of my friends tried to get me into it once. Unfortunately, one of them has a mouth when it comes to plot secrets. Before the first episode was over, I knew the first two series. Never got into it after that.

Spooks, a show accused of mildly copying 24, fucking rawks.

It's a nice enough show to watch when nothing else is on. But I'm not waiting week for week to catch the new eps. I just dload them.

The 1st season was great, mainly because it was a new experience. I've followed it each season after and while the rush hasn't been quite the same, it's been good. I do agree about either renting the DVDs or taping the episodes (which is what I do). You end up yelling, "What do you mean it's over?" otherwise.

One does need to suspend the sense of disbelief, though, because the plots, while convoluted, are really simple: Jack Bauer saves the US (and coincidentally the rest of the world) from mean and nasty Terrorists. It's really very Fox News, if you think about it. Just don't think about it.

Agreed 100%. I watched the first season on TV with my guy friends (for some reason, none of my girlfriends at the time were interested), and we loved it. Had viewing parties every Tuesday, and nearly always ended up yelling at the TV when the episode was over. Saw the second season on TV with the same group of friends, and we all agreed it wasn't as good as the first season. Same for all the following seasons. As for the sense of disbelief, yeah, you definitely need to ignore that. If you don't it takes all the fun out of it.

I didnt watch the show till the third season-I loved it.
I rented he previous seasons on dvd and watched them all in order.

The show is great-Jack Bauer is a good character. I find the charater often does what you are silently hoping he'll do.

There is the constant frustration though, of the females- his wife, his daughter and new girlfriend-ALWAYS falling into the hands of the villians.

Its made up with the satisfaction of when he asks someone a question-they dont answer, so he shoots them through the knee without warning. Or blows a childpornographer away after the guy says he cant be touched as he's cooperating.

Just be careful you don't lose too much sleep. :D That 1st season we'd sit up until we were doing the head-bobs, trying desperately to stay awake for "just one more episode!"

Ha, and I just remembered the fun of watching the actress playing Jack's daughter run. :p

Love it. And the best part is watching it on DVD, because you can watch all 24 hours in only about 17.5...its like some trippy time warp.

okay, yeah. So I need sleep.

Jack Bauer makes Chuck Norris look like a pussy.

I never watch 24 on broadcast. I wait till the season comes out on DVD and then I watch the entire 24 episodes in a single drunken couch potato weekend. It is glorious.

The last season should be out on DVD in about a month.

awww its taken me at least 2 weeks to watch this series (on the last disk now...)

i think a solid weekend of 24 would be awesome :)

I love it!
I usually dislike action things... and random shooting.... and general violence that i'd usually oppose... but it's so damn good! :p can't miss an episode.... You can't analyse it too much - that's why the plot changes and twists and surprises (which have made me laugh sometimes with the suddenness and unbelieveableness) are so great. Other than the simplistic knowledge that jack will live and can do no wrong, heh, you really don't know what to expect... you can't say "oh, she won't die" because people can die just like that *clicks fingers*.... i love that sense of realism, even if other bits are totally unrealistic, heh...

Okay... I could rant on for days :P

I'm proud to have passed on my addiction and obssession to PM *nods* :D
(especially cos it means I'm getting to watch the first two series which I missed because he got them on dvd...)
