I found this kinda funny.
Then I thought, 'Hey! NS hasn't been doing much US-bashing lately, so what the hell! Why not post it?'.
And I have.

Increasing numbers of Americans are becoming too fat to fit into X-ray machines, US researchers report.

The nation's rising obesity problems mean many citizens are not only too large for scanners but they have too much fat for the rays to penetrate.

Over the past 15 years, the number of failed scans linked to patient obesity has doubled, Radiology journal reports.

how can there be so much fat that the x-rays cant go through? can someone explain, semi-scientific manner, howthat is possible?

basicaly the x- rays can't penitrat the fat layer to be able to hit teh bone and bounce back to the film. i think basicaly the fat absobs the x-rays

Water is a very effective radiation shield, fat is mostly water.

Well all tissue is mostly water, after a certain point it just won't penetrate anymore.

Fat people are more likely (slightly) to survive radioactive fallout.
