Motivational Speakers and Media

Do you spend a truckload of cash to listen to motivational speakers? Do you read general "how to succeed" books (not those with specific subject content)? Do you hang inspirational posters, bible verses or quotations in your office space?

It appears to me that people are split into two camps regarding "motivational" media. Anointed Believers and Annoyed Skeptics.

All I need is some data to see how many "meh" people are in between.

Let's see what the poll reveals!

Does porn count as motivational?

No. Not subject specific. Stuff like "who moved my cheezels", or "10 most effective habits of rich heirs."

Motivation is something that has to come from the heart. You could read hundreds of books, paper the walls with posters and listen to days of speaking but without the actual desire to succeed they're all meaningless. They might work for some people, but not for me...personally, I find the Lumbergh-esque "Is This Good For the Company" motivational posters to be irritating rather than inspiring.

I find things like a walk in the woods, discussing philosophy, or simply kicking back and putting everything in perspective to be infinitely more motivating and refreshing than all the speakers, posters, and books in the world.

The value of motivational media is in the practice. If one just reads it, it's worthless. If one practices being motivated, it's invaluable. If one slanders motivational media, it's counterproductive.

Not in my opinion. If motivational speakers get rich by selling books telling people how to get rich, I smell a rat.

Who moved my cheezy poof.

I've never been motivated enough to actually go out and buy a self-help book. :p
