As an adult, I dont usually suffer with any form of pre menstral problems, other than tender breasts, but lately I've been getting terrible lower back pain and cramps, and quite bad headaches.
When I was 15 I suffered hugely with pain to the point where I collapsed unable to walk because it hurt THAT much. My mum is a nartual practitioner and she sorted me out over six months of treatment, and I've been fine ever since, but she lives on the other side of the globe now.
I'm now 25, and they seem to be getting bad again, and I'm wondering what 'fix' ladies of NS use to see them through the dark times of period pain.
Chocolate is always good, but it doesnt agree with my hips ;)
Suggestions?

don't know what to suggest for the headaches but have you tried a hot water bottle for the cramps and back pains?

Personally, I take Celebrex. Not exactly standard issue, but it works. :p

Hmm, I'm blessed with only relatively little pain, and only cramps, too, nothing like back pain or nausea or evil stuff like that.
Still, even though it's milder than what some of my girlfriends go through, it still hurts like shit, so those one or two days that it usually lasts are practically the only time I ever take pain relievers - as many extra strength ibuprofen tablets as needed (usually 2 or 3 a day).
What I've actually found to help is eating relatively fatty food one or two days before your period starts. I thought I was just imagining things until I read some article about how that actually made sense (don't ask, that was forever ago and I forgot everything). Of course you don't need to shovel in the grease, but maybe postponing that new salad-and-fruit diet for a couple of days would be a good idea.
I guess the fat is also a big reason why chocolate works, btw.
Now don't come complaining to me about your hips, though. :p

Oh man. I have an irregular period, so when I get it, it's baaaaaaad. Personally, I just suck back way more Midol and Tylenol than is probably good for me, and then curl up in a ball and moan for the week. I can't even leave the house some days, it's so bad.
Apparently sex is suppose to help, but personally, I'd rather not go there when I feel like hell, and the idea doesn't thrill my boyfriend so much, either. :p Try drinking lots of water, and curling up with a hot water bottle pressed against your lower back. (Warmth on my stomach makes me a little nauseous.) Or taking a warm bath.
I find this thread rude and exclusionary to the transgendered readers.
No I dont really I just always wanted to be horribly shocked due to some total bs political correctness reason. It isnt as fun as I had hoped.
As you were, continue on the PMT/PMS discussion.

I can only suggest similar things really. I get it pretty bad the first day. Hot pack on my lower back or belly. Knees up to my chest in bed, lots of paracetamol or ibuprofen. I've heard lavender is meant to help. A dab of it on your pillow or something, but i cannot stand the smell.
I always feel like a I need a deep massage in my lower back, but I have no one to do it :(

I usually just live with it, or rest, or (if it's really bad) take some painkillers.... I'm really bad at doing stuff to help when I'm feeling ill, partly 'cause I went through a phase for a fair few months where I always had something wrong somewhere (head, stomach, throat, back, legs, feet, shoulders, general ill feeling, colds etc) and just got used to it *shrugs*
But I'd try all the normal suggestions such as baths, hot water bottles, painkillers, certain foods (like, I do know starchy foods help me when I feel nauseous)....

i find light exercise does work once you manage to get up...and other girls i know swear by the hot water bottle...but im one of the lucky ones i guess...i dont get much more than dizziness from iron loss...and supplaments are always good for that!
