I managed to find Season 4 of ReBoot. I first watched that show when I was about seven or eight, and I've loved it ever since, really. Its the computer nerd in me, and its fascinating to watch how much technology advances through the seasons, comparing Season I shots (done in 1994) to Season 4 shots (2001) is a lesson in the history of computer animation :P

But anyway, thus far the crazy French-mormon supervirus is mostly only annoying to me :P
However, finding out more about the Guardians has been interesting. And 'good' Hexidecimal is...freakish O_o

Well, the plot is quite nice thus far, the charecters are a bit annoying, but they make up for it.
And Hex DOES go viral again, so Im told. She was turned into a sprite inthe last bit I saw.

Season 3 was dealing with a different type of adventure, considering it had a much tighter plot than the first two (which seem to consist mostly of Megabyte's various schemes to take stuff over), although Season 2's 'transitional episodes' do develope a background for S3.

Season three was freaking DARK for a child's cartoon show. I have yet to get ahold of season 4, where'd you find it?

Hmm... Was it anything like that old Sonic The Hedgehog cartoon where Dr. Robotnik was trying to bring about a nuclear apocalypse? That was really dark for a cartoon, man.

Actually that's another really good example, what with the slave mines and mind control devices.

Seriously you couldn't get away with that now.

I remember that show. I always watched the first few minutes before Hebrew School. :D...for some reason I keep thinking of string cheese. I think I would also eat it at the same time as watching the show.

Sometimes, I wonder, is it the parents I hate, or the kids?

Anyway, kudos on the DVD acquisition.

Yeah, and the whole brain harvesting part was pretty freaky. It's a shame that I never quite caught the final season(s?).

But, if ReBoot season three is anything like said Sonic series, I'd like to check it out.

Yeah. I also remember the GI Joe movie (the one that basically ended the original cartoon series).

If you haven't seen it, imagine the leader of the Joe's being impaled on a giant spike, and cobra commander being exposed by the leader of COBRA to alien spores that gradually transform him into a giant snake. Then, betraying cobra for this, he, having lost nearly his entire humanity, and with that his mind, attacks the leader at the key moment, providing a victory for GI Joe, while hissing "I....was...once...a man!" and then, afterwards, fully transformed, slithers off as a snake.

Freaky stuff for children.

Actually it ran until about 1997, took a 4 year break, and regouped to produce one more short season to answer the remaining questions.

If you've seen seasons 1 and/or 2...

Imagine the annoying little brat child enzo.

Now imagine him 20ish years old, 6 feet tall, with a scar, tattoos, a mr universe build, a guardian keytool, a nihilistic attitude and a very, VERY big gun.

Like I said...the show gets dark.

Wow... that's a pretty cool ending. Never got to see it though. Damn...

It's been a long time since I saw the Transformers movie... I remember some of the really traumatic parts... like people being dunked into molten metal, and sharkbots tearing people apart. That movie was crazy.

They just don't make kids shows like that nowadays... I mean, have you seen this sh*t they have on Saturday Morning? Like Winx Club, and GI Joe Sigma Six (which I will curse forever for what they did to Tunnel Rat. He was one of my favorite Joes ever...)

Yeah, because that's what us teenagers do, hang out at the mall all day.

I can't even remember the last time I've been to a mall. I think I was looking for a job (I didn't get one...)

Lets put it this way.
In one of the last episodes of Season Three, Princess Oolah (or however you want to spell it) snaps the neck of a game sprite with some very loud crunching effects. I did a double take on that scene. Definitly TV-Y7 ;)
But yes, Enzo changes quite a lot. He also decides to hate himself in Season Four, which people who have seen Season Three may think of as a spoiler of sorts, but a predictable one.

Speaking of Princess Oolah, how many other shows can you remember half of the minor charecters from? ReBoot did an EXCELLENT job of creating empathy for the charecters, I can honestly say I was genuinly concerned a few times, and its very rare that a show does that. If Dexters Lab were to run an episode where Dexters dad got cancer, would anybody seriously care?

And yes, I agree with the statements about kid shows today. They started going downhill around the turn of the century, when Cartoon Network started dropping the old shows and putting on 'cartoon cartoons', and has now replaced those with even worse stuff.
Although I certainly dont miss the endless Scooby Doo ripoffs...Jabberjaw...*shudder*.

One of the things that made ReBoot great, in my opinion, was the cameos and endless satire, spoofs and ripoffs. The entire episode that was a near carbon-copy of a Star Trek episode (complete with Captain Kirk), and Talent Night (where the Megabyte shows that all he really wants is to be a rock star).

And, of course, Daemons 'Chron Virus' was freaky. I mean...imagine counting down to your own death (in binary, of course) and ENJOYING it.
And the people chanting '101, 100, 11, 10, 01, 00' is freakier than you might think.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the best animal sidekick ever...Frisket.
Seriously, that dog pwns everything, and comes complete with a V8 supercharger. He can quite literally bite through a tank, and his psychotic personality balances Bob quite well :)

If you want a bit of a spoiler in season three, read on, do NOT READ if you don't want a spoiler (edit: I've turned the spoiler text white, highlight if you want to read):

Sometime in season two, enzo goes with bob and dot into a game, where he encounters a young girl, Oolah, whom he befriends. however they realize that she is in fact, part of the game, and will vanish when the game ends. They however figure out a way to reconfigure her, making her into a normal sprite, so when the game ends, she remains behind, and becomes part of the show.

Then, towards the end of season 2, a tear opens and mainframe gets attacked by the demons from the web. Megabyte and hexadecimil align with bob and the rest, as sort of a "lesser of two evils". Bob gets his friend mouse a hacker (program) to erect a firewall around mainframe, so that when the portal closes, there would be no way back to it from the web, and they'll be safe.

Before the final attack, Bob reconfigures enzo as a guardian, just as enzo has wanted all that time. Bob then tells him he isn't strong enough to be a real guardian yet, but when it's all over, bob will send him to the guardian school for training.

Then, in the final moments, megabyte betrays them all, snatching Bob's keytool and crushing (but not fully destroying) it, and hurling bob into the portal, before it finally closes. With the portal closed and the firewall in place, Bob is stuck in the web, with no way back. End season 2.

Season 3 begins just after this. Bob is gone, and enzo as the new, and only "guardian" tries to defend the city against megabyte, hex, and incomming games. Although he is not really a trained guardian, and is no where near as skilled as Bob was, he is, technically, a guardian, since Bob configured him into one, and therefore Bob's broken, but semi functional keytool, glitch, will work for him.

So a game comes, a mortal kombat like fighter game. However enzo is too young, and he loses. Typically all sprites who are in a game when it is lost are destroyed, BUT Oolah, who used to be a game sprite herself, was able to change her, enzo, and the dog, into game sprites, so when the game ends and goes away, they go with it.

Of course now mainframe is without either bob, or enzo, and leaves dot as its real sole protector.

Next we see enzo he's....big. Real big, with a pissy attitude and a BIG gun, with a charlese theron in eon flux like girlfriend who can hurl razor sharp, toxic spines from her arms. He's been spending the time jumping from game to game, trying to get into the web, find bob, break the firewall, and get back to mainframe.

It is uncovered later that the reason he has aged is because he spent so much time in the games. It says he "compiled faster", which seems to suggest time moves much, must faster in the games, and he ages far more rapidly. That even if he's aged 10 years, only a few months have actually passed since the events transpired. However he is also told "you haven't been gone as long as you think", which seems to suggest that since time in game moves at a different rate, he has actually lived, and fought, for 10 years, inside the games, but in the outside, only a few months have passed.

Whether he has felt only the passage of a few months, but his body has aged rapidly, as the statement that in games you compile faster seems to suggest, OR whether he actually lived out those 10 years, having only a few months past in the real world (which seems to be implied by the "you haven't been gone as long as you think) is never made clear.

Although it seems to suggest he simply aged at a much faster rate, and has only been gone a short while, the fact that he actually seems to look, and act, like someone who has been, quite literally, through hell, seems to suggest he's been at this a long, long time (I told you, the show gets dark). It may well have been that for him, 10 long years have passed, fighting inside the games, trying to find a way to bob, and a way home.

ANYWAY they finally find a tear into the web, but they know exposure to the web will kill them, so they cover their ship in the hides of dead web creatures they find outside the portal, so that when they go in, their ship won't dissolve. However Oolah is attacked by one creature that wasn't quite dead, and falls into a coma.

The ship is attacked in the web, and enzo learns that many of the horrors of the web are actually sprites who have decayed due to exposure to the web. They are overrun and enzo confronts the leader of the attack force, which beats him handily. But then the leader walks to oolah, despite enzo's attempts to stop him. The leader sees Oolah in the coma, and actually procedes to transfuse his own "blood" into her. She wakes up, looks at him and wispers. The leader turns around, takes off his helmet, and it's Bob. He didn't recognize them and was repelling them as attackes. He looks...different, older, and he too seems like a man who's seen hell.

So they finally find the firewall, and bob reveals the big secret. Keytools are living, sentient creatures, and Bob's keytool glitch actually accepted enzo, not simply worked for him as he was a guardian. Bob merges with the keytool, and much of his power is restored.

They break through the firewall, barely, and find mainframe under seige. The viruses have run rampant, phong is captured, games have torn holes in the city, and they're losing the fight.

The whole city literally begins to fall apart, and bob comes up with the final solution. Force a crash of the entire thing. If they crash mainframe, there's a chance it will boot back up again, and all the damage will be undone. Finally they succede and mainframe is rebooted (fulfilling the name of the show). Although the city is repaired, and the lost are restored, everyone's memories remain. However two things persist. One, as bob is not part of mainframe, the reboot does not affect him, and his different look remains. Likewise Oolah, not being an original part of mainframe, is unaffected.

Second, and most wierd, presumably since enzo turned himself into a game sprite, he too left the mainframe system. However he still existed in backup, so when the system rebooted, it booted him from the last moment he was in the system, as a child before he seperated from it by becoming a game sprite and leaving with the game. Thus, after the reboot, the earlier childlike enzo is restored from the last moment he was part of mainframe, but the older, more aggressive and powerful enzo, still remains. Thus...two enzos. One the child, one the adult.

Thus ended season 3.

If there were a way to hide text I would have. If I felt like typing that all out that's really my concern, not yours..

was your reply really necessary?

Edit: found a way of making spoiler text white...do you have a complaint now?
