As I sit here waiting for my egg mc'muffing and iced hazlenut coffee to arive, the news is on, so I'm watching it..

Our local news weather.. guy does this charity bike ride (http://www.wnep.com/Global/story.asp?S=794091) every year to raise money for St. Joseph’s Center (http://stjosephscenter.org/).

Well anyway, he is in New York City at Bryant Park, they were filming him talking to local people that were there to see GMA's concert. As he was talking, there were people in the background with signs saying "Happy Birthday [name]".. wouldn't they notice that it's only going to be seen in one small area, not where they're from?

What is it that makes a person get hyped up about a tv camera, even if they know no one they know will see it?

What a most excellent question indeed!

My reaction to TV cameras and people trying to get some soundbite is to scowl and turn away. Unfailingly. It's a reflex.

There are few things that are more alien to me than people seeing a camera and starting to smile & wave & point & jump up and down.

I just don't get it.

I'm hoping for this thread to solve the riddle. I'm not very hopeful, though.

I treat a camera like a mirror

"ARGH, GET IT AWAY FROM ME"

a TV camera that is, photo camera's I'm ok with.

I think it has to do with the overwhelming idiocy of some people.

This brings back memories of that age old internet meme that goes "I'm a drunken whoooore!" with an attention aspect tacked on.

both reactions comes from the fact people is not used to have cameras around. After having cameras all around for a while, you just treat them as part of the landscape, as I do :p

maybe they don't know. cameras are cameras, they could be filming for anyone. plus somepeople are just shameless attention seekers.

Am I alone in thinking they should edit out the sign's messages and replace them all with "I'm a stupid attention whore LOOK AT ME!"?

I hate having my picture taken. A TV camera would be no different.

I've been on Fox before in Colorado (although i was in Wyoming at the time)
and i've been on two of our Alaskan news stations up here before for various things, and King 5 news in WA when someone important was being interviewed (i was walking by singing Dream Theater at the time, kinda funny maybe)
I never really expect anyone i know to see me, and other than once, i was right. *shrugs*
Of course, i do have a radio show for four or more years now.

I made the local news only once. When interviewed, my neighbors all said I was quiet and kept to myself.
