How regularly do posters lie, outside of NS?

In what contexts?

Why?

If not, why not?

I personally fail to see why a lie, provided that it benefits all those it effects, constitutes a moral stain.

I try to never lie, but sometimes temptation wins.

Nah, I lie when I don't want to talk to a certain group of people and need an excuse to avoid them or when I'm late to hand in work for no good reason.

Constantly. In every situation I find myself in I lie. So does everybody else.

I gave up lying years ago - it's far too much effort keeping track of who knows what, and it's much less stressful when you don't have to worry about what you say to whom. That said, I can see situations where lying might be for the greater good. And I do some time avoid answering questions if the truth would hurt, but that's rare: I'll answer most questions about me.

I lie whenever lies benefit me more than the truth.

I don't see the point.

Even if I post under my real name, I just don't see the point of using the greatest tool for communication ever invented to lie.

Of course, outside of the net...

In my experience, 9 out of 10 lies always end up rebounding on the perpetrator and end up making them look like an idiot. It's probably because you always have to lie to back up another lie you made and the whole thing just snowballs into some huge web of deceit that you can't keep up. Not a good idea to be a compulsive liar unless you enjoy mental exercises and having no friends.

I don't try to lie. I may lie sometimes when a friend calls up and asks, "Hey, wonna do something today?" and I trust reply, "Nah, I'm kinda busy." But I'm sure everyone does that. I tell white lies sometimes, those don't bug me so much.

How regularly do posters lie, outside of NS?

On occasion.

In what contexts?

When people ask stupid questions, usually.

Why?

Because stupid questions deserve stupid answers.

I personally fail to see why a lie, provided that it benefits all those it effects, constitutes a moral stain.

Lying about significant matters is wrong; by providing a person with false information, you deprive her of the capability to make decisions corresponding to how things actually are.

I hardly ever lie. I’m just not good at it. I prefer more indirect forms of deception.

I try not to lie, but sometimes I get carried away.
Its really better not to lie, because you have to remember to whom you have said what,(hoping theyll never meet ive youve told conficting ones)and then theres the whole starain of keepi ng up the lies.
When I do lie its not usually big things, usually just little ones that wouldnt cause too much trouble if they were found out.
To be fair tho, every body lies-either to make themselves look better to others(to impress peope)or to get out of a sticky situation. Its the big lies that you have to worry about!

I lie whenever lies benefit me more than the truth.

Sounds about right.

I'll lie when it is in my better interest than honesty.

I almost never lie. I'm occasionally led into one by others, but won't start one myself.
There seems little point to do so; if you don't care about someone then it doesn't matter what they think of the truth; if you do it is better to tell them the truth, as it will hurt more if they find out by themselves.

Actually I think lying should be a capital crime. It really gets to me. I'm not sure why.
