So, I think I know what university I want to go to.

Well, TAFE, really. I wanna get software design at Swinburne in Hawthorn. No prerequisites except for passing Year 12. Yay?

I thought that Swinburne was a one of those... tougher unis. But their requirements for IT are pretty low...

Probably because it's one of those no-name unis. No one could be bothered to go there if they could somehow manage to get into Monash or Melbourne Uni.

We've got QUT and Griffith here in Brisbane - same thing. It's where the people go who didn't get the results to go to UQ. :p

I'm thankful for places like Swinburne. I'm not the kind of guy who does spectacular in normal school environments; at least partially due to my Asperger's.

I'll either do 2 years of TAFE and 3 of uni, or if I exceed my own expectations and get around 70 on the ENTER, I'll just take 3 years of uni.

Fair enough.

I just always think that employers who have the choice between someone from a uni like Swinburne and a uni like Monash would normally try to choose the latter. So if you go to uni in Swinburne, you might want to look at getting good marks so you can transfer over to another uni, if only for the name you can put on your resume later on.

Of course, if you choose TAFE instead, that's probably a little less likely to happen. I've seen many people just go to work straight away after TAFE, because they think five years of extra schooling is just too long. It's your choice, but I'd always advise to go to uni over TAFE, especially because every moron and his dog has got a uni degree these days.

Programming, AFAIK, is a very casual industry. They won't really care where you went, as long as you can program decently.

I probably can't get into uni straight off, though. Unless I surprise myself with an ENTER of around 70. And even then, TAFE seems a better option for me.

Games. I couldn't stand seeing poor games and being unable to do anything about it. So I'll make them.

Now, whether or not I get in is another story. But I should, I mean, the only prerequisite is that I don't fail this year.

While I have never heard of it and I'm not an American so I am in a different ecducation system. Most colleges in the US go on your SAT scores and may extra cirricular activities? If this college just requires that you pass year 12 than perhaps it isn't very good. We were told with British Colleges (I'm Irish) that if you get an unconditional offer before you sit your Leaving Cert be very careful unless your a genius and the college wants you really bad. Try and get incontact with ppl who go there and are doing the course you want to do. Also compare the ciriculum of that course with other colleges. You can always have that college as a last resort.

No, it's decent. Swinburne University of Technology, est. 1909. Anything that can last 97 years has to be at least decent.

Besides, you've got to remember that it's TAFE. TAFE is usually like a step between college (high school for you Yanks) and uni. If I pass that course, I should be able to go to the uni course.

And I'm not American either; I'm in Australia.
