God gives us a hint on Israel

Last week, just as Israel was striking Lebanon - a work crew in an Irish bog found an ancient book of psalms that was open to Psalm 83 - The Psalm where God basically tells the enemies of Israel to STFU and step off, bitch!

Coincidence? Or sign from God?

Ireland worker finds ancient psalms in bog

Irish archaeologists Tuesday heralded the discovery of an ancient book of psalms by a construction worker who spotted something while driving the shovel of his backhoe into a bog.

The approximately 20-page book has been dated to the years 800-1000. Trinity College manuscripts expert Bernard Meehan said it was the first discovery of an Irish early medieval document in two centuries.

"This is really a miracle find," said Pat Wallace, director of the National Museum of Ireland, which has the book stored in refrigeration and facing years of painstaking analysis before being put on public display.

"There's two sets of odds that make this discovery really way out. First of all, it's unlikely that something this fragile could survive buried in a bog at all, and then for it to be unearthed and spotted before it was destroyed is incalculably more amazing."

He said an engineer was digging up bogland last week to create commercial potting soil somewhere in Ireland's midlands when, "just beyond the bucket of his bulldozer, he spotted something." Wallace would not specify where the book was found because a team of archaeologists is still exploring the site.

"The owner of the bog has had dealings with us in past and is very much in favor of archaeological discovery and reporting it," Wallace said.

Crucially, he said, the bog owner covered up the book with damp soil. Had it been left exposed overnight, he said, "it could have dried out and just vanished, blown away."

The book was found open to a page describing, in Latin script, Psalm 83, in which God hears complaints of other nations' attempts to wipe out the name of Israel.

Wallace said several experts spent Tuesday analyzing only that page — the number of letters on each line, lines on each page, size of page — and the book's binding and cover, which he described as "leather velum, very thick wallet in appearance."

It could take months of study, he said, just to identify the safest way to pry open the pages without damaging or destroying them. He ruled out the use of X-rays to investigate without moving the pages.

Ireland already has several other holy books from the early medieval period, including the ornately illustrated Book of Kells, which has been on display at Trinity College in Dublin since the 19th century.

Hold on, is it really that amazing? A bog doesn't seem like a very destructive place. Sides, is this like, the only ancient book of psalms in Ireland 800-1000 years ago?

Unless Syria, Iraq, Cyprus, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia Iran, Turkey, and Egypt all declare war on Israel I think it's just a coincidence. Those states comprise the territory of ancient Assyria, the nation mentioned specifically in the Psalm as allied against Israel.

What? Where does it say only Assyria? In fact, it says, Assyria has joined "them." (edit- additionally, I think you over simplify the condition of what was and was not Assyria, vs. what did Assyria control through conquest at the time.)
Psalm 83A Song. A Psalm of Asaph.
1 O God, do not keep silence;
do not hold your peace or be still, O God!
2 Even now your enemies are in tumult;
those who hate you have raised their heads.
3 They lay crafty plans against your people;
they consult together against those you protect.
4 They say, ‘Come, let us wipe them out as a nation;
let the name of Israel be remembered no more.’
5 They conspire with one accord;
against you they make a covenant—
6 the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,
Moab and the Hagrites,
7 Gebal and Ammon and Amalek,
Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;
8 Assyria also has joined them;
they are the strong arm of the children of Lot.
Selah

9 Do to them as you did to Midian,
as to Sisera and Jabin at the Wadi Kishon,
10 who were destroyed at En-dor,
who became dung for the ground.
11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb,
all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
12 who said, ‘Let us take the pastures of God
for our own possession.’

13 O my God, make them like whirling dust,*
like chaff before the wind.
14 As fire consumes the forest,
as the flame sets the mountains ablaze,
15 so pursue them with your tempest
and terrify them with your hurricane.
16 Fill their faces with shame,
so that they may seek your name, O Lord.
17 Let them be put to shame and dismayed for ever;
let them perish in disgrace.
18 Let them know that you alone,
whose name is the Lord,
are the Most High over all the earth.

Technically, almost all of Assyria's territory consisted of vassal states; Assyria itself was a fairly small part of its Empire. I'm assuming that they imply the Assyrian vassal states as well, since those states provided the backbone of their imperial armies.

7 Gebal and Ammon and Amalek,
Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;
8 Assyria also has joined them;
they are the strong arm of the children of Lot.
Selah

This is the most interesting part given its mention of Tyre, Philistia and Ammon; the first is in Lebanon while the second is partially in the West Bank and the third is in western Jordan. However, given that Jordan is siding with Israel rather than Hezballah, I think it's still a coincidence.

My Irish Archeology sources tell me that this is probably the actual book of psalms that King Arthur gave to Saint Patrick.

Israel will always be looked upon kindly by God because they are a nation who devoutly believes in him. Israel has been under constant attack from day one and should get credit for maintaining their humanity and faith while fighting those who would like to see a second holocaust.

They need to destroy Hezbollah once and for good. Sacrifices must be made by all, whether it angers them or not. Fundamentalist Islam is what we must fight. Terrorism is their tool. Hezbollah is that tool.

Wow don’t you sound like a tool lol

I never said Hezbollah is justified in this case but I don’t think Israel is either. I just said I can understand why they are upset

Do not attempt to place them on the same moral level. Israel has the right to defend itself from hezbollah rocket attacks. If your country was penetrated to the core with missiles from a terrorist organization you would be upset. Israel is upset.

my mistake it is late here and I am wayy to tired. Going to bed soon. My apologies, I was getting too used to having to constantly assume that every post I was reading was about Bashing Israel. Seems like there are half a dozen threads on the topic. well, sorry about that. My mistake.:(
