a thread for misanthropes

so there must be some misanthropes out there, this is an internet forum afterall and one associated with a game where you get to control an imaginary population of anthropes or whatever the word is. my question is - how did you get here? have you always been misanthropic? or have you become steadily more and more disollusioned with human beings. myself, i have always, ok mostly, had such a sunny outlook concerning my fellow humans, i always thought that no matter how selfish or mean a person may be their good side will out at some point and redeem them in some (probably small) way. now, for various reasons, i'm not so sure - i think i'm steadily becoming the thing that most perplexed me before, a misanthropist. i don't think i'm so far gone as to become a conservative or a republican but my brain is certainly heading in that direction.

I have always been a relentless cynic.
I don't think I have ever been a misanthrope because I thought most people were predictable once you knew them.
I dislike humans because they create disorder. I am a misentropic misanthrope.

Are you one of those guys with a high IQ who takes pleasure sitting around not useing it for anything more productive than making sarcatic comments?
I'm simply curious, I mean no offence.

Makes sense. I just wondered why your posts were generally so witty and caustic yet seem to contain no content I could descern.

I don't mean it like that. I enjoy Gatrefs' posts', it just seems to me that he's brighter and more insightful than he lets on.

Predictably selfish. Hence your cynicism.

I am indeed a misanthrope. Unless improving human nature becomes feasible in the relatively near future, I hope for the quickest possible eradication of all of humanity. It would not only be good for the planet, for for humanity itself. Something great to look forward to.;)
At the current state of humanity, a good human is a dead human. Though a small amount of people are or can become pretty good without dying, under the right circumstances. Possibly even good enough for death not to be a significant improvement, in which case they could just as well live on. But that is next to impossible to achieve on a larger scale, as it would require a worldwide revolution, followed by a combination of eradication and enslavement (depending on how useful they could be) of idiots with no chance for improvement. (also doubles as a fine solution for the overpopulation problem) This would only serve as a temporary solution, however. A long-term solution would be to improve human nature through genetic engineering, after having an established world government take control of human reproduction.

I do not remember ever not being misanthropic, even when I was a tiny child. It has been my experience, on a regular basis, that with the odd exception, human beings are complete bastards.

not sure... i generally have a deep distrust of (the vast majority of) people both in terms of motives etc and in everyday actions (such as not trusting people, thinking they're lying all the time when they're not, thinking they're laughing at me, fun stuff like that). i'm also pretty damn cynical about an awful lot of things.
i'm not sure if that counts as a blanket distrust or dislike of "everybody" (there are people i do like and trust... though you will frequently hear me say "i fucking hate people"), but for the most part i put up my hand as a misanthrope :)

heh, i think i'm in the same boat, although the people i distrust the most are those i like the most. which sucks hairy balls to be honest.

no, that's called hitting puberty and discovering numerous intoxicants at the same time. don't worry, it'll feel completely normal in a few years.

Go to a doctor. He can give you a scratch test for misanthropy. He'll scratch you with a small needle - if you punch him in the face, you're a misanthrope.

Mr. Sunshine, reporting for duty!
Yes, that is sarcasm. I'm a bit of a misanthrope... used to be a lot more of a misanthrope, but then I managed to get out of East Texas for a few months and gained a sunnier outlook.

I don't know about me. I hate what humans are doing, but I think I'm more of a overly dramatic and exaggerating realist than a misanthrope. But this is what happens when people kill the planet and threaten to kill me.
I once heard the saying "Strangers are friends you haven't met yet".
I disagree with this sentiment.
I think strangers are enemies who haven't yet had the chance to push you off the edge of a cliff.
Humans are an untrustworthy lot. Bastards all of them.
